Is it normal for the speedometer display lights to get dimmer when you turn on your lights at night? My car is only 7 months old and just began doing this.

Yes, That way they do not blind you at night. BTW check your dimmer switch.

ye i know about that. I did try it..its already on max. I recently cracked open my headlights so I could paint the inside of them black, but I made sure to put and wire everything back properly. This started probably after a week of doing that project.

The dash lights are suppose to dim whenever you turn on your headlights, day or night. This is how most if not all cars are setup.

O ok. Thanks for the help! I was just checking because it never did that before, so I thought maybe I messed something up when working on my car

If your dimmer switch is actually set at 'max' then the dash lights should not dim at all when you turn on your headlights.
The dimmer switch has a 'stop' you have to push past to 'click' it into the actual maximum setting. Make sure you're past the stop and clicked into max, if your dashboard lights still dim at all, you have an electrical problem somewhere.

in all actuality I made a thread about something similar to this a while back about on the sedans dimmer rheostat. when you turn the dimmer switch all the way up it goes bright then after the click it turns dimmer (with headlights on).

ok NVM.... I didn't fully read your post, plus the fact you have a liftback....sorry

I would say most cars that have an adjustment control have both max on always setting and a variable setting
