When I turn on the rear wiper in my hatchback, it makes this god awful noise like its not moving smoothly across the window. It just sounds like rubber skidding across glass. Anyone know how to stop this so I can leave the wiper on when it rains?

Ya, it didn't get my hard water spots, and it didn't really help with a sunburn. I think people are just mean spirited and want you to smell bad on top of your initial problem.

But I guess its supposedly true:

You could try cleaning the rubber part of the blade with a paper towel soaked with windshield washer fluid. The rubber oxidises a bit with time, and this can remove some of the oxidation. And if the glass has water spots, you could try using a clay bar to remove them from the glass. But I personally just leave the rear wiper off, and just turn it on for a single wipe or 2 every now and then manually.

mine only makes a little noise until i run some of the washer fulid and then it gets real smooth sounding...i just assume there is debris on the rear window that causes friction but, once the fluid gets in there it's all gravy...

After I wax my car I use the wipe off cloth to wipe my windows. It leaves a wax film and the wipers wipe better.

Thought you weren't supposed to do that, makes the wipers worse in the long run.

I replaced my wipers after three years. I don't think the wax hurt the rubber. I think the sun does more damage. I still have my back wiper. It works just fine.

I have the same exact problem with my rear wiper.
The rear wiper blade rubber really does seem stiffer then the front.

I wiil try the vinigar trick before replacing the rubber with some stock I already have on hand, that is used but, is stiil servicable.
