Bay area car club meet before winter comes.

So who is interested in a meet before winter comes while are cars are still looking good. This is for local bay area members such as san jose, campbell, fremont, milpitas, oakland etc.

Those who are interested please post your name and area your from so we can compile a list and start deciding which is the center of most of the members as well as a location and time to set the meet. Throw any sugestions out and what you did and dint like about the previouse meets so we can plan out one of the best meets this year.

I'll be around Jason. As long as it's before December I'll be good to go however I will need a good advance date set so I can get off work as well. Also I won't be able to get time off from Back Friday (First Friday after Thanksgiving. Anywhere from Nov. 23 to 29th. depending on when Thanksgiving is) until after Christmas so it should be in the middle of November at the latest for me to have the best chance of going.

The one and only meet I have been to was the Marin Storage meet. It was great but would've loved to have met up at an area with a large parking lot to have some more freedom to set up the cars for photos. Also, a meet where we cruise afterwards :burnrubber: and Garm actually shows up :bellyroll: and I think we'll have an overall amazing meet!

I went to the Marin meet and I thought it was great! Well, except for the sun and the heat, I was pretty happy. I agree that a bigger parking lot might work better.
I can't make it during the week, Sat / Sun work better for me.

I'd be interested if it falls in December when I'm on break. There a huge parking lot in Vallejo (Old Navy parking lot). It's in the middle of many, many places (eateries, movies, etc.). Also, after we're done, we can head over to Mare Island for individual and small groups photos. There are some places big enough to accommodate 10+ Yarii though. It's usually deserted mid-day. I'm not sure about late afternoon though. Therefore, I'm suggesting that this meet be a lunch and photoshoot meet.

as for me, i work nights, Sunday thru Thursday, and have Fridays
and Saturdays open for hook ups. I drive 1k miles a week for work
and already have 67k on Yari. Getting ready to throw my extra set
of Mini S Lites with 205-40/17s on since I need to think about tires
pretty soon. I'll post some pics of Yari in the stock mode tomorrow.

There will also be a pumpkin carving contest! BYOPumpkin!!! We will have stencils, knives, tools, etc. Winner will get a prize of undetermined value at this time.

I will have the firepit going if it is cold.

Of course I want to have a movie playing on the outdoor screen, so please list your suggestions as well.

We have quite a few members in CIA, but not everyone shows up all the time (including myself). Expect at least 8-10 CIA members, but since this is more of a party, expect more than that to show.

A Prius is a hybrid / gasoline mix and not likely to share parts with the yaris at all. I can't say for sure but at least that's the feeling I get.

The reason why I'm so interested is because I can't find any Prius gatherings so I can't meet with any other drivers. You guys look very active and I think Yaris and Prius are almost the same, they save some gas and are small cars.

Nah, you need to have a car that won't break down going up and down that road. I've seen old cars not making it up Hwy 17 sometimes, usually older American models...but your Prius will do JUST FINE.

I dont mind mcarthy ranch. Thats where in and out is as well. Mainly because its literally 5 minutes from my house hehe. I know a lot of people go driving/racing/drifting in the calaveras hills in milpitas. But to take a huge group up there at night all the drivers would have to have good driving skills.

I think if you go on the entire drive its about 30 minutes from one end starting in milpitas and ends up in san jose by the olivera egg ranch on sierra road. If i have time i might go with my fiance on a scenic drive through there this weekend and see if there any good spots where many cars could park along side of the road where we could take pictures as well.

Something i found on the web. Its a pretty twisty turny route. Something you would see in a mazda zoom zoom commertial.

Theres also there are haunted places that we should avoid while doing a night drive...

Milpitas - Ed Levin Park Cemetery - The cemetery is now closed, but even in the daytime, electronics will shut off, start on own, loud moans can be heard, flashes of lights and car problems. Very cold in spots.

Milpitas - Marsh Road - In 1980, a Milpitas High School student raped and murdered his girlfriend, leaving her body underneath the small bridge on Marsh Road, high up in the hills, in the middle of nowhere. Underneath the bridge is a very foul odor; electronic devices are drained of power. And when people go there at night, a white truck tries to run them off the road. When people pass by the bridge late at night, there have been witnesses who claim to have seen the ghost of the girl. As the driver looks at the back view mirror, she will appear in the reflection, but as you look back, she's gone.

I have a friend who went up marsh road at night and he claims some crazy stuff happend. Now they usually lock the way up to marsh road because so many vistors try to go up it. But its on a lot of "haunted location" web sites so there may or may not be some truth to it.

Actually most of the road is 2 lane but there are a few 1 lane places. But the way the mountain curves you can tell if there is someone ahead comming your way. I always take the turns as fast as possible going down hill. Its quite fun. I have heard some storys of people racing there late at night though that have fallen over the cliffs.

If we do this we might consider getting some long range walkie talkies. If we all buy the same brand and set them to the same frequency it could be a cool event. We can talk to each other as we drive and warn each other too if a car is comming so we can stay closer to the shoulder. Also good so we can let each other know if we can to pull over to take pictures or decide where we are headed. And then just keep them with use for the next meet. So we dont all get lost and loose half the group like some of our other meets. Also when we set up future meets once we are in range we can get in contact with other members to find the exact spot. Such as the great mall meet where half of the people met in the parking garage where others were outside in the parking lot. If we had walkie talkies we would be able to contact each other.

We're going to need an official vote on where to cruise. Then when the cruise spot is picked we can choose somewhere to eat either before or after the cruise, probably after. And then we can decide on walkie talkies as well. I for one like the idea but the slim budget doesn't. Although splitting the cost with someone should make it bearable.

We can do Calaveras Hills or we could try going up Skyline / Highway 9 or we can cruise through Woodside (nice upscale neighborhood in the foothills). There's also highway 17.

i dont know much about those other highways, but i know that 17 will be more of a race than cruise, you know, practically 2 hands most of the way dropping 3rd the whole way down. Last time i drove that highway was over summer in a toyota sienna 2ways every day for 5 days...i left the yaris at home as it was still relatively new.

Yeah pizza box is really good. Its a hole in the wall place. And really tiny. But for i think $3.50 you get a piece of pizza that is bigger than your head. But the owner is really rude and talks shit about everyone in vietnamese. Its like she hates her life and her job you can see it on her face. When your pizzas ready she will slap it down on the counter and yell pizza. And will walk away. Funny thing is if there is a room full of poeple waiting you have to kinda guess if its yours or not.

Only thing about meeting there is there is only enough seating room for about 5 or 6 people and the parking lot is small too. Unless we park at golfland which is next door. They do have the king kong pizza which is probally the largest pizza i have ever seen in my life. It can probally feed 20 people.

Four AAA batteries each.

I just found out there's rechargeable batteries with the four Cobra walkie talkies, but I'm not sure how well these batteries are because I haven't used these in forever.

We'll use these batteries first and if anyone juice runs out you can provide spare.

For my two MIDLANDs I'll provide the batteries for those (AA), I just don't have any spare AAA batteries around.

I'm almost done with my BSN program at CSUS, so I'm going to stick it out, even with all the BS and unorganization. I'll contact the accreditators about Sac State after I graduate. They need to know about their BS.

Theres also there are haunted places that we should avoid while doing a night drive...

When people pass by the bridge late at night, there have been witnesses who claim to have seen the ghost of the girl. As the driver looks at the back view mirror, she will appear in the reflection, but as you look back, she's gone.

I have a friend who went up marsh road at night and he claims some crazy stuff happend. Now they usually lock the way up to marsh road because so many vistors try to go up it. But its on a lot of "haunted location" web sites so there may or may not be some truth to it. "

You wanted some info on the cruise so i took a video... nah actually i found one guy took in his mazda. To physic you guys up. So its not for the faint of heart if you are not a skilled driver. Especially in the dark. I used to go up there when i had my 240sx back in the day. Only been on there twice since i had my yaris. Cant wait to try it out with my latest suspention mods and wider tires. For a stock yaris it may be a little tricky. Especially because of some of the blind turns.

I think most of us are modded w/ lowering springs or better shocks or rear sway bars...my tires aren't what they use to be, but they can still hold their ground. Its going to be fun going through it at night :)

I dont think there will be any cars there at night. Its typically deserted even in the day time. Mostly rich people live way up miles in the hills and its not like they leave and go to work every day like the rest of us i think they just are mostly retired people so theres never any type of traffic on the roads.

The route we would take is probally going ot be starting at milpitas which is a little safter. On the video you see the guy is hugging the edge of the cliff. One mistake and you would fly off. Comming from milpitas is the opposite way so you would be hugging more the mountain walls its a little more safter. If you misjudged a turn atleast only the side of your car would get hurt instead of you getting hurt. :iono:

There is another road kind of like this one between Mill Valley and Stinson Beach, but there is a LOT of traffic there if memory serves.

I know what you are taking about where the road turns to a single lane and its a blind turn. I think during at night though the headlights of any oncomming cars will make it more obviouse that cars are comming. Still on those few sections i always slow down to a crawl. There are only a few of them halfway up the mountain.

For those going on the cruise afterwards dont forget to check your tire pressure before you go and make sure you clean out your car so you have nothing rolling around on turns that could possible interfere with the gas or brake pedal.

Once we reached the end after going to the top and down, we parked at shell where we discussed how our driving was through the hill. :drool:

How bout that crazy light we were stuck at, perpendicular street light kept on going green then red then green without us. i know at least most of use ran the light :)

Hitting the mountain pass again was fun, ill upload both videos ASAP, the second run i didnt play any music just had my window partly down enjoying the sound of our engines.

best meet ever! Cruise + swapping parts + 2nd time on the cruise for (kioshi, advocate, and I) the video i have of the cruise is 700MB in 720p, need to break it up to upload to youtube.

and have you considered the backroads from Tam Valley Rd. to Stinson Beach and up? It's really pretty up there. Gorgeous views, especially on sunny days.

But yeah the reverse cruise was AWESOME!!

Thanks to Bob from the Corolla crew for the warm welcome to all the Yarii. Definitely a big thanks to Alex too for organizing such a successful meet.

Other than that it was a great opportunity to break in the new seats and meet everyone from the forums again.

Next time we'll have to go a bit more north I think so that our Sac area friends don't get left out.

Yup got it on the Cam, you sure have a lead foot.

It was great to be welcomed by the Corolla people, i didnt even get a chance to check out their cars was too engrossed by ours.

It was a great oppurtunity to swap out an S cluster :)

*I have the video of the run on youtube (kioshi, advocate and me), just have to wait for it to finish processing, should be all good by the morning. Though i must admit watching a 25 minute video of making turns is rather boring unless we were daring enough to add some tires screeching, i should edit it to be 2x as fast :)
