Newbie here. Just purchased a base '07 Yaris yesterday. She's pretty stock and got 24600 milli-miles on it.

I am just wondering, what kind of engine the Yaris has?

Like, is it an "interference" type or a "non-interference" type engine, for when the timing belt job comes along?

thanks.

but.......you all still haven't answered my question>>>>>>>> "interference" or "non-interference" type motor?>>>>>>> i'd care less if its chain or belt.

and for the record, i know what you all are talking about. i have done extensive mods to my truck for off-roading so i know what i'm talking about. nothin' like a little yaris that i can't handle...

So the belt is non-interference and the chain is interference? I didn't know.

mikenacarato
10-06-2009, 04:41 AM
thats not true. a timing belt motor can also be an interference motor and chain can be a non-interference motor as well.

well thank you all for the quick responses.

mikenacarato...that's true too, some motors can be flip-flopped the other way around.

Is that the new Corolla engine? It looks clean and simple. By the size of the alternator, it looks like it can be used for larger cars.

You gotta learn 'Toyota-speak'

it is not a timing chain

it is a 'chain sub-assembly'
