Those of you who remember my early posts, ranting about how the little Yaris couldn't take the wind across the Bridge, may be satisfied to know that the Yaris isn't the only thing not taking the wind. The bridge itself is having problems!! :eyebulge::eyebulge:

Yesterday, a piece of bridge about 5000 lbs fell during peak commute (a cable snaped) on the hood of some car. 3 cars were involved but nobody was seriously injured. They closed the bridge down but high winds are slowing down the progress, and we won't have access to that bridge for an "unlimited time" until the repairs are complete. That bridge carries millions of people across to and from SF every day.

So when I was told by other posters last winter that what I felt crossing the bridge was just body roll (it really feels like the wind is tossing the Yaris into the other lanes, if you ask me) I'm starting to wonder.

Should I start carrying a parachute now, in case the wind blows my Yaris off the side of the bridge?  Scary.

Yeah, stay away from that entire area. Traffic is pretty bad also on the Richmond Bridge and GG Bridge, right now, since people are just going around to avoid the area If you don't have to drive, I wouldn't.

Still think I ought to install in a rear sway bar to help with cross-winds? :iono:

I was coming from San Jose today, so not much traffic. Anyhow, i still think you should invest in a rear-sway bar when funds are available....

Esp today, on 880S and 280S, i could feel the wind, and my car did sway VERY little...but not as much as it did w/o the sway bar....

Before the sway bar, i would have to fight the wind a bit, i didnt have to fight as much, maybe just lightly apply pressure to opposite direction where the wind was hitting me.. And i don't weigh much LOL.....its all car weight:laugh:

OMG That's insane! Bridges freak me out ever since the 35W collapse here in the Twin Cities - and now hearing that story ... ugh. I hate bridges.

Just fly through them whenever you go on them...I usually stay on the far left, yes I waste gas, but I'd rather be off it within a few mins...

That sucks, my friend takes the Bay Bridge to work every day. Looks like he's going to have to leave earlier then. hehehe.

I remember that video, that's incredible. The first time I saw this, my jaw dropped to my knees! Did you see that guy going to get his dog?! That was touching.

I'm thinking about it. it's actually the first mod I thought I'd do, was going to ask Garm to bring me one @ the last meet and I forgot. No rush though.

I hear you. They were just talking about it on the radio tonight.

They had a professor in Civil engineering from UC Berkeley on the radio, earlier tonight, explaining why Cal Trans (the entity in charge of the bridge repairs in California) had done a lousy repair job last time, allegedly failed to comply with certain inspection requirements, and now the very same part broke again (They first noticed the crack when they were working on the bridge over Labor Day, closed the Bridge then, too). It's f'ing insane.

I'm with Kioshi, I don't speed but I don't particularly enjoy going over the bridges around here, or in the Tube for that matter.
