Whoa  are there any "close-up" pictures? I'm curious if there are any other vents on the hood other than the one in the middle?

i'm pretty sure that pic is a photoshop so no close up really available. so what you see is what you get as far as i know. no other vents.

I like it...I must see finished product on a car before I commit though. Design is kickass though

It's CTScott's design. It's a forward-facing recessed scoop, a little bit of a nod to the Celica. Final details will be worked out on the prototype. I'll post up working pics as we go along, feedback is always welcome. So is encouragement, LOL.
Pretty sure we are going with just the one opening. A nice detail is that a parked car won't get too wet under the hood like existing vented designs do (including the one on my car).

So all that air that goes in through the vent, where does it get out? :iono:

Is the scoop raised at all or, is it just recessed?
BTW, My other car is a silver '02 Celica with a "C-One" style raised scoop that I installed.
A scoop can change the whole personality of a car and balance out the styling.

i'm just curious...what would the vent look like for the scoop?
cali yaris
10-30-2009, 11:49 AM
I would like to see the scoop half raised, half depressed, that will give the line of the hood some character. But we'll see when we have more than one photoshopped pic!
808, I think you mean what mesh would go in the scoop by "vent"? Don't know that yet but it will be black.

fmicle, air will escape below the motor, as it does with forward-facing scoops.
The Kaminari reverse-cowl (and similar designs) directs the air OUT the vent, forward scoops direct the air IN, just to be clear.

The "Hex" mesh would look great and follow the front grill nicely:thumbsup:

With the height difference between the bottom and top of the hood, it should be possible to have the bottom of the scoop angled slightly towards the bumper, so that water drains down the bumper, rather than entering the scoop when the car is parked.

I want to remove heat from the engine bay, especially near where the AFE filter sits. I've removed the heat box around the AFE filter for various reasons. Which design would work better?
A forward facing scoop or a reverse facing vent? I decided that I do not want to poke a hole in my front bumper to force cooler air in.

I wonder if a forward facing vent would increase lift in the front. It seems it would direct air down past the engine and under the car. I think a rear vent (like the Kaminari reverse cowl hood) would direct air up and over the car, increasing downforce in the front where it's needed..

i know i am not the only one that has thought this, what about porting the vent directly to the intake filter? I am from the old school of cars, dont know if these can handle that. Basically a ghetto ram air. lol
frownonfun
10-31-2009, 03:45 PM
i'm sure one could always construct a funnel of some kind directing air to the intake. ghetto is what it would be though, yes. course no one will see it unless you open the hood.

In the Yaris, I don't think it would be an isue. It is only an econobox and the little (if any) negative downforce woud not be noticable.
When I installed my raised scoop on my Celica, the owner of the body shop (who painted it) raised the same concernns but, it has proved not to be a problem at all even at very high highway speeds.

yeah but if I made a custome kick ars funnel, would it actually make a diff you think? It is much cooler air and a LOT more of it/

Niice, I like. How much is for carbon?
cali yaris

yes, this is in production. dont have a cost for cf yet
is it gonna be a funtional vent? putting a hole in the hood is not as easy as it sounds, things get wet = steam coming out = visibility issues, electrical shorts... anyone aware of where our plug wires and battery is located???
cali yaris
01-06-2010, 04:58 PM
Yes, the vent will be functional, and placed as shown. I'm well aware of where the wires and battery are located on the Yaris.
I've never heard a Celica owner (which has a very similar vented hood configuration) complain about steam coming out, much less steam causing visibility issues.
I have a Seibon hood with a very large vent, and there are no issues with rain and steam, or electrical problems of any kind.
Motors get steam cleaned, right?

hmmmm, I'm kinda convinced... but I'll need a free production sample to test fitment and durability, CF perferred
