looks awfully cumbersome... where would that thing go? or should i say, what location did you guys have in mind for this pod to go?

This pod goes right on top of the steering column. It gets mounted on top of the glovebox behind the steering wheel.

that is correct:thumbsup: it goes above the steering wheel column, the way we made it also is for all of us who use that compartment wont loose it:thumbup:, so after you install the pod holder with all 3 gauges you still have the compartment available..

tk-421

Nicely done!

Will you be able to offer these painted? I'm guessing most people would prefer black or dark grey... You could even offer glossy or matte finishes if you want to go all out

anubisx99
11-01-2009, 03:43 PM
well as of right now we're going to make them in a already black tinted plastic (almost the same as the interior) we figured that was a more general color that way painting is an option, you can just install it right out of the box keeping it black or just painting it the color you want... depending on order we might do them in different plastic tint, that way there's no painting since it'll come the color you want them...

tk-421
11-01-2009, 04:53 PM
OK I'm a bit confused... I thought you were making these out of fiberglass? If you're using plastics then that's a whole different story...

Or maybe you're just referring to a plastic "finish"?

kac
11-01-2009, 05:05 PM
Can't wait to see finished product/installation....

anubisx99
11-01-2009, 05:48 PM
the finish product can be made out of either fiber or plastic, the thing is making it out of fiber will take longer because if we pour a lot of resin in one shot the resin will crack (trust me, that's why it has taken us so long to figure out on what to make it) and it can also brake the mold that was very expensive to make, also as I said before the plastic we are making it out of has a few advantages over resin:

1- won't crack easy on fabrication
2- can be made in color (some limitation of color apply)
3- more resistant
4- no paint require (unless you want to paint it in a color that's not available)
5- less time for individual fabrication

and that's just a few of the things, but just wait for the pics next weekend.

Some clarification would be great.

ok, gents, here are the first pics of the very first pod that is made, the bad news is that making the first we notice a few blemishes that we need to fix, the good news is tho, that we know how to fix it in order to finish them, here's also a video that I did with a little more detail check it out:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_bFbxIdw3w

so as you can see if it wasn't for these few errors pod will be done, Garm we really wanted to send you the finish product tomorrow but it's going to take just a few more days, we just want to make 100% sure this a top of the line product, not only for MI and YW but for us too...

keep the inputs coming guys, we really appreciate them!!!

obvious next step...anyone have the TRD gauge p/n's?

you really dont need a trd unless you want to, the pod is set up to take a 3.5 inch tach, like autometer or the sunpro we wanted to make sure that if you cant buy an autometer u will have a cheaper option.

Kioshi
11-05-2009, 10:33 AM
i think this will officially be the hottest mod for Yaris owners....most here don't want to line up the gauges on the pillar like every other car on the street..very classy and cool, imo

Now....I'll have a tach in the cluster soon, hopefully...soo i dont know what to put in your pod besides water/volt gauges..

anubisx99
11-05-2009, 10:48 AM
Ok, here's the deal on the TRD tach, the original TRD tach is only 3" unlike the sunpro (3.5") and the autometer (a little less than the sunpro) however, I'm making a white face just like the TRD for my sunpro, if anyone is interested I could make them for u also, you'll have to brake the tach slowly and re-assemble it with hot glue but it'll look very nice, that's one of the next thing I'm doing since I don't wanna spend close to US$300.00 for an original TRD, so...any takers?

anubisx99
11-05-2009, 10:51 AM
Also for the side pods, there's a lot of options I personally will have a water temp and an oil pressure gauge...autometer has a nice looking neddle watch too tho...

cali yaris
11-05-2009, 11:19 AM
You guys can also make an insert for the center opening so the pod stays the same but all three holes are 2 1/16" for those that already have a tach installed.

If I'm taking on the responsibility of marketing and selling a new product (or even just helping with it), I will be looking at the sample quite closely, as anyone would I think.

anubisx99
11-05-2009, 02:02 PM
Thanks Garm, we actually want u to really look at the sample and then decide from there, that's why we're making sure that the product is as perfect as possible, keep also in mind tho that this pod WAS made by hand, so for everybody out there let's keep that in the back of our heads (not just Garm)...

So will it be glued-on, or will there be screws like the JDM?

anubisx99
11-06-2009, 12:19 AM
ok, so for the mounting we have two options, 1- the unit could be mounted just like the original RHD with 4 long self tappers, in which case will be shipped with a template that you lay down on the glove compartment before pre-drilling, or 2- 1" "L" shape brackets mounted to the inside of the pod line it up and then drill the self tappers, whatever the case may be we'll choose the easiest and quickest way and post pics and instructions...

tk-421
11-06-2009, 01:02 AM
Couldn't you use 3M double sided tape in order to avoid having to drill up your OEM parts? I'm pretty sure the tape would hold and it is very thin (~1mm). http://bit.ly/3Hc8w3

It would just be a matter of adding an extra surface on the back in order to hold more tape...

gents, you CAN use double sided tape to hold it in place however, the only problem I see (trust me I deal with this issue all day, I'm a sign maker lol) is that after you put the tach and the gauges on it adds a lot of weight to the pod and it might fall off (even with the 3M stuff which is pretty strong) beside the weight issue there's also the problem that even if you find a double sided tape that's 1/4" wide you'll still going to have some showing from the edge of the pod, however installing it is really up to you guys how you preferred, besides you'll need to drill some holes for the wires to pass thru...(if you don want them showing of course)

cruz-gsr
11-07-2009, 01:51 AM
ok guys, correction, for the tach, the opening is actually 3 3/8" not 3.5, that's for the sunpro tach setting, the autometer tho is 3.5 if you have a mini monster (shift light included) otherwise is also 3 3/8, for the small the opening is 2 2/16", double check before you get a tach or otherwise you'll have to "Dremmel" the hole a little bigger

:bellyroll::laughabove:...
no, you don't need to, that hole is from our old tach set up, however tach an gauges have different depths so depending witch one you have you might need to do a little dremmeling here and there also, the RHD TRD in lower than ours so I'm 100% sure that you needed to open a holes for the thac/gauges, we made ours a little higher so it clears most of the tach/gauges out there, good question tho...
