as much as bringing a JDM vehicle over seems like a cool and unique experience there is something wrong with importing a 15 year old car (Canadian law) that most likely has been abused back home. All I see around Montreal are JDMers with for sale stickers all over town. People seem to forget that these cars are not in their prime. Now if the law permitted bringing over a brand new vehicle from Japan its would be great but a used street racer from Japan is like buying a cat in a bag, you never know what is REALLY wrong with the car. My friend imported a 1995 Silvia (not sure of the year ) , race ready huge amounts of power.....had it for 2 months then the tranny blew and the diff....total price with transport came to about 23000$ , sold it for 5000$
So the lesson here is wait for some guy to import what you want and buy it off him when it breaks!

There might be a reason you are seeing a lot of JDM cars for sale PK.

If you can actually hook up with a good importer its not a bad deal at all. I have 2 JDM vehicles right now and if you're mechanically inclined, it's not a big deal. Just have to be realistic and understand what you're getting into.
I had my truck imported by my friends who did it for a side business a while back and it's been an awesome purchase, it's needed a bit of work here and there, but no more then any other 15 year old vehicle. My other was a car brought in by some moron and it's in rough shape but I bought it for a dedicated track car so I understood that from the get go. Neither of these vehicles were bought to be my main means of transport so whenever I've run into issues it's not the end of the world. The yaris is my reliable commuter.
But I agree, a lot of the vehicles are brought in by idiots just trying to make a quick buck and the cars that have been thrashed. They're cheap so it's usually just idiot kids buying their fantasy drift cars then realizing they don't have the means to keep the car in decent shape. That or they just wrap them around a tree within a couple months. It's a shame because there are lots of awesome JDM cars to be had but the scene is spoiled by these folks.

There are some gorgeous skylines on the website. I had fun looking at those instead of my professor today in class.
Definitely wouldn't want to see it wrapped around a tree!
