View Full Version : Tanabe NF210 vs Stock springs

I have a set of Tanabe NF210 springs that I took off a Hatchback that I sold to trade up to a TS. The car had a really comfortable ride (5% stiffer than stock) and it looked really good, nice and balanced.

Anyone have any experience to know if these offer a bit lower stance than the stock TS springs? (which are lower than the "regular" Yaris)

If I compare pictures of the 2 cars, the TS Stock springs look taller than the NF210's

No body to my knowledge has Tanabes on a TS.

I know a couple of members have H&R's and they did lowered the car and improved the handling so these look like a good choice.

If you already have the NF's you can try them and see how you like them... however I don't think you will see much improvement from stock. Perhaps you will drop a few mm but it will be easier to bottom out the suspension as they are on the soft side.

I would rather go for Tanabe DF's, or TEIN's. Larger drop and stiffer rates.

Or if you could just get Tokico Blue struts with the NF's

Thanks for the info! I will try what I have and see how it goes... Just did not want to spend the 2 hours to have the "same"

I liked the way the "other" Mk II handled a lot, 'cause I had some comfort. I tried some AG's that lowered 2" and looked the "part" but it was a brain shaker! The Tanabes were an excellent upgrade

Interesting... aren't the NF gives you lower looks but keeps stock feeling.

The thing is that the Yaris TS already comes with slightly lower and stiffer springs... and matched shocks. So we don't really know how much of an improvement the NF's or even the tokico blues would provide.

But I guess he will have to give it a try and report back!

OK, here are some pics...

Since I was getting dirty, besides the Tanabe Springs I also changed from 205/40/17 Dunlops to Yokohama A520's in 225/35/17 that equate to the same height to maintain gearing but give wider meaner stance and lots more grip.

(The original TS wheel would not let the Yoko's "pop" and bead correctly after many tries and different tricks, don't ask me why... so I also changed the wheels with a set I had from my old Yaris which I also liked how they look)

Height: The car is lower than with the TS springs by about 1/2 inch (a bit more (like 3/4") on the back so the result is the car is "leveled" now) but to me, the car looks a lot better, without the "empty space" between the tires and the fenders

Ride: IF you take into account only the springs, the ride is about the same as with the stock TS, (the NF210's are just 5% stiffer than a stock Yaris 1.3) with the tires, it becomes a bit harsher/racier (the tires are 35's and wider so you definitely get an on-center feel plus a harder rubber). If you're into sporty/racy cars, the ride is good on a daily basis... A bit less comfort and a lot more sportiness... but the look is from another planet!

But the tires... oh man! wow!! these are stickeyyyy in the dry AND in the wet !! The combo NF210's and Yoko A520's are a great package for a daily driver and weekend warrior! I catch myself laughing when I do the twisties!! Awesome grip! Go-Kart fun! Maybe a stiffer spring would make it an exclusive track day car, but this combination is a winner for me!! The car seems on rails now and the lower stance makes it an aggressive looking package !! Over the weekend I have gotten a lot of questions about the wheel/tire combo because it "really" looks different. The before/aft pictures does not do justice to the change in stance/look/aggressiveness the TS has gained!

Nice to see the combo working. I have the NF's too, and I really like the ride/stance. What offset do you use on those 225/35/17's?

You got me OZMDD... I have no numbers on offset but maybe I can ask the shop who sold me the wheels

I do have the Brand and model if this helps you: The brand name is LEAGUE, model LG-A216A 17"x7" 4x100mm

The offset of the TS wheel is +51mm (Not 27mm) the size is correct though.

I got the 27mm number from a marking on the cast on the back of my OEM wheels. The offset numbers correspond with the difference seen between the two brands of wheels once installed in the hub of the car.
