I know winter fuel formula hits our FE but when do they usually start serving this crappy fuel formula?

I think it depends where you live... in WA state I think it was october...not sure about oregon or cali.

It is indeed variable by locale, but in most places the fuel is used from the first week of October through the last week of March.

that would make sense... my September tanks were about 3-4mpg higher than my October tanks. I had 1 outlying tank in September.. but that was highway driving (70mph) which isn't aligned to my normal driving habits.

I got 39 mpg on my road trip from pa to md on winter blend so I guess it's right in the ballpark with the summer blend

Yeah, I know...... dredging up an old thread.

We hit the winter gas formulation here about the end of October. My MPG dropped about 2mpg. That sucks. Was getting ~43 & now it is ~41.

I don't know how much effect the cooler air has on my MPG.

What exactly is the purpose of winter gas? Is it an environmental thing?

I found this prior discussion, which pretty much answered my questions.

I'd say that's exactly correct :)
