I bought an Actron CP9135 OBDII scanner at the pawn shop because it was recommended to me as being a good one to use on my 97 Crown Vic that I am fixing up.
It got me wondering if it would work with the 2009 Yaris, of course I have never had any issues with this cew car but if the CEL comes on it would be nice to have a compatible scanner.
Do we think the Actron CP9135 OBDII scanner would work with an 09 Yaris or has the ports/standards changed since 97 ?

Any obd2 scanner will work on any obd2 car. All cars are ob2 that are 96 or newer.

Thanks , are the codes standard with a list somewhere or do you need the factory service manual?

Actually, I don't think the CP9135 will work with the Yaris. I don't believe that it supports CAN bus communication. Older code scanners only supported ISO-9141 .
The Yaris supports the OBDII data protocol, but over CAN bus, no ISO-9141.

Is there an adapter to allow it to connect to canbus or am I SOL? Guess I should have asked you guys for a recommended scanner first.

I would check with Actron to see if there is an upgrade for it. I looked at the online manual for it last night and there was no mention of CAN support.

A few years ago, Actron used to sell upgrade kits to install in their scanners so as to make them work with CAN-bus. I upgraded my 9145 that way. Those older models are no longer sold, so it's unlikely they still sell the kits. But it doesn't cost anything to call them and ask!
