View Full Version : I'm Pissed. Wanna see why?

This is what happens when you are turning onto a street and someone on the other side decides she wants to turn right into you.

Fucking idiot.

I'm fine by the way. Minor bruising from the seat belt. On a side note, my horn did the cool stay-on-after-a-collision to alert all passers-by that there are car guts everywhere.

But yeah, I'm pissed.

This is what happened.

Before w/ action arrows, and after. I am the black yaris. The black/charcoal truck is in red. because she was evil and didn't know how to drive. She saw me coming, or not.

After the collision, she got out of her truck, which was not in park, then proceeded to chase after it across the two remaining lanes (since it wasn't in park, and it was an automatic) to where it came to a wonderful halt in a ditch against a tree.

That's what she gets for killing my yaris.

...So two people wanted to turn left in the same center merging lane.

Were you stopped in said merge lane facing the direction of traffic you wanted to merge with? Either way, the other driver needs to be alert as to what's going on around her. A lot of people don't care to even look around before they change lanes.

Court can rule that case both ways.

Both head on collision means both of you did not pay attention. Which means both are at fault.

And since there is a lot of damage, it almost seemed like someone or both were speeding to get into the lane, and bad luck just drove you two together.

And I doubt either one of you saw eachother and just let the crash happen, cause that would be stupid....

man, glad you are OK. i have had a fear of this exact situation here in ANC. people are such bad drivers here, we seem to attract them like a magnet. i mean, look at the seward highway this summer.

i have entered the suicide lane several times and nearly head-on'd several people who enter after i do. sound like this person who hit you really is a moron.

Yeah I was in the middle first. I got witnesses w/ contact info too just in case this female wants to get dumber. I told my insurance company, but since it's her fault, I don't plan on paying anything. I hope my baby isn't totaled... :frown:

I went to the ER, spent the entire afternoon/evening there. X-Rays, CT scans, the works. Thankfully they didn't find anything too severe and just gave me some pain killers and muscle relaxers. Only had to wear the neck brace for a few hours.

BTW, CT contrast gives you a warm feeling all over. And then it feels like you wet the bed. It's phukin weird.

Yeah. And this really pisses me off because my Yaris was my vehicle to go snowboarding. I don't trust the cavalier down the Seward. Yaris has higher head-on ratings.

And yeah, people here suck at driving. I've been to a lot of places, and the only worse places I've been to are cali down town la and kansas. What makes it so bad here is that it's not just a select few. It's EVERYONE.

The center lane (A.K.A. turn lane) really has only one purpose in this entire story: to show where my car was relative to her truck. If you look at the pictures closely, you will see the blood of my car has spilled on what is the east side of the turning lane. I was turning left (north-bound) onto the street, and made it almost all the way (as in, i was beyond the center turning lane) before she turned out of an opposing parking lot, also turning left, and hit me head on. The reason I didn't see it was because I was watching another possible hazard, as described below:

Before I turned out, I looked left: no cars.
I looked to the right: one car, far outside lane.
Looked left again, still no cars.
Started out while turning back to the right.

I was watching the approaching car heading north-bound on the far right lane to ensure it wasn't going to change lanes while I was going to enter the left lane. Once I felt safe that they were not going to change lanes, I looked ahead to see the giant grill of a chevy silverado staring right at me in the face.

that's the problem, the entrances aren't lined up, as they should probably be for safety, or atleast farther apart... I am glad you're safe; I myself have been in a similar predicament, especially with roads setup like that, and have been found doing sound very hairy maneuvers to not get hit by the person, and or sit still too long in oncomming traffic. now I just wait, there is never a rush as great as putting my self at risk (I assume all drivers suck haha).
maybe even go as far as to write a letter to DOT, complaining about the precariousness of that section of road; with enough accidents and complaints, they'll probably look into it and fix it.

Exactly what I would've done in that situation as well. Overall the accident is a crappy situation. I think she's at fault but others might not be as convinced.

Two things:

I didn't cross 3 lanes of traffic, but rather 2 lanes of traffic and a center turning lane, so I'm covered there.
We were both turning left.
Actually, the person turning right vs the lefty has the right of way, hence the term "right of way."

There is no way to "fix" it, due to the setup of the parking lots in the area. I'm just gonna go out the other way from my apartment complex from now on. I only have one working car left lol.

yeah...LOL

only do this if you can afford jail time if you get caught. if it is totaled, the insurance company owns every last scrap, and only the insurance company can dictate where the parts go. usually to an auction house.

if you get a total-loss, and insurance buys a replacement vehicle...taking parts is theft. could lead to a lifetime of no insurance for any vehicle ever again. so be warned.

I sent the photos and the drawing to the insurance company already and they said they were very informative. The witness is the key factor in this one. Because of him, the insurance company has just informed me today that the person at fault has been determined to be her. So as it stands:

But I was also informed that the other driver might not have the right coverage.

I wouldnt go anywhere without under/uninsured motorist insurance! As much as I can get! Estimates are in NJ where I live 40% of all motorists have NO insurance. The three other members of my family (but not me!) have been rear ended a total of four times in the past six or so years. Only ONE of the other drivers had insurance. And that one bitched to no end when her company paid $4000 in repairs to cover our car.
So yeah you need full coverage these days and eyes in the back of your head. Its good the cops and the ins co are on your side!

Finally got the settlement money, minus my deductible. My insurance is going after the other insurance company (subsidiary of 21st) because they claimed it was 50/50, and my insurance said that was bologna. They told me they probably did that only because 21st has been having a lot of money issues lately and they will probably have to go to insurance court to get them to pay for damages. So that's all out of my hands now. At least the settlement was all taken care of and I got the main bulk of the money to pay off the rest of the loan.

As for damages, going back to empty out the car, this is what I remember seeing:

The engine had dropped and moved backwards a considerable amount
The hold was pushed back so far it was embedded into the windshield
The doors didn't close straight because the whole frame was bent
Interior panels had popped off because the car frame was bent that much.

I have been looking around for a new car, still undecided though. I was very close to buying a tC about a month or so ago, but now I'm about 70ish% sure I'm probably going to get another Yaris. They are just awesome.

ECU and gauge cluster are property of the insurance company when a vehicle is totaled. The adjuster let me take out the calzzio seat covers and a couple other things, so if I decide to get something other than a Yaris I will start posting stuff.

Ouch! Are you sure you are okay after the accident? I know for some people who think they were okay afterwards, but injuries come much later such as pinch nerve on your cervical (C1-C7 neck area) and problems in their lombar (lower back) area in the long run. You should have got yourself checked out from the doctors since you can use med pay to cover any medical fees depending on your coverage.

Had an X-Ray and CT scan. Nothing major, C4 slightly out of alignment. Been going to the Chiropractor twice a week for 5 weeks. For a while there I couldn't move my neck at all, but now it's much better.

That's awesome. Hope your lawyer can get you a crap load of money for your losses and visits to the doctor for the situation you were in. What kind of neck treatments do you get from your chiropractor, if you don't mind me asking?

He just does the cracking thing to help undo the binding that's going on. He also gave me a neck thing to lay on to push my neck back into place.

I don't know if your chiropractor does this, but decompression therapy works wonder in the neck and will help you in the long run. My neck was so bad that no matter what treatments I got from my chiropractor (adjustments, icing, and other forms) it didn't work. Decompression therapy is very pricey though.
