The Yaris had a much better month in October sales wise. October sales were only down 13.2% compared to 2008. Year-to-date Yaris sales are down 40.9%, though.
Yaris is now the fourth best-selling subcompact:
1. Nissan Versa (70,543)
2. Hyundai Accent (60,106)
3. Honda Fit (59,175)
4. Toyota Yaris (55,169)
5. MINI (39,172)
Accent sales were WAY up (more than 100% compared to Oct.); Kia Rio sales were up nearly 75%, too.

With over 10% unemployment and a declining economy, I would expect the cheapest cars to do better than the Yaris. Also, I think some have seen the light that gas prices are going to go up, not down.
Yea, and the Yaris is not cheap.

It just blows me away that the Versa is the best selling car in this class :-P

I'm not surprise that the Nissan Versa is doing well. There is enough people who don't care about looks. They just want a new cheap no thrills car to drive to work and back. It's even more appealing when Nissan is giving (in my region) $1,250 cash back on a brand new Versa. For under $9,000 (w/out tax) you can own a brand new Japanese car.

i still don't care for the looks, or the brand for that matter. I would probably go for the accent, if I couldn't have a Yaris

Plus, the Versa is rated WORSE in small car reliability in the latest Consumer Reports while the Yaris is BEST.
As for the Yaris's sales, there is still a scarce inventory level (has been for much of the year). While the competitors are well stocked. Toyota just doesn't seem to want to keep the supply up. They want to sell Corollas.

I agree, the yaris brochure is tiny compared to the corolla, plus my dealer has probally 20+ corolla's and only 3 yari. Funny thing is they have 5 corolla S models all in Magnetic gray.

That's the other thing. I see tons of Corolla S models but barely any Yaris S models. In fact, I've never seen a Yaris S on a dealer lot other than the used one I bought. I heard Toyota purposely limits Yaris S's yet why is the Corolla S so abundant?

yaris is consistently over 50k.... unless it drops to low 40's one month there's nothing to worry about.

The Versa has a lot of Renault DNA in it and Renaults are really fine cars. It is very French in style. If the feel of the steering was damped like the Yaris, the dash was less generic looking and the fuel economy better I'd have bought one for the smoother ride, smart key, greater cargo area and its sick looks.

My brother swears his 83 Renault Alliance was the best car he ever owned. Its 1.3 liter engine got 50+mpg on the highway. It was destroyed by a drunk driver hitting it head on. Bro got tweaked up pretty good but he lived.

Is this why the cash incentive dropped from $1500 to $1000 in November? Good thing I bought mine in October! :)
