so how does it attach? by those 2 big bolts on each side?
would of been cool if you lowered it so it fit around the steer wheel plastic so the door could open

meh- looks really bulky, and I wouldn't want to lose the glove box

thats one option on how to install it, or you can hot glue the pod to the door:thumbsup:

you can still use the box, the door does not open all the way but can still storage stuff there.

hot glue would be the best i guess
the bolts make it look cheap

Ugh, it looks so good. (I'm annoyed because the TRD gauges by Defi are so expensive. ;_; )
FYI I believe even the factory pod installs with bolts. Four of them IIRC.

the pod will be shipped without any holes, that way for those who want to "hot glue it" they can, as far as the bolts, 1- the original (see: http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23584&page=2) it uses 4 instead of 2, 2- they are not that big once it's all together and 3- this is our first model as we go I'm sure better ideas on how to install it will come out, also as far as still be able to use the compartment, you can, you can install the pod as low as touching the steering column, the lower it goes the more the door will open, it's that simple....
next question...

yes, we'll make a video for the install (just as before), we'll have the tach installed, as far as the other gauges there's a few things to keep in mind:
1-depending on the user gauges may be different
2-installs are also different by the user, one may installed different than others
3-the pod function is only to give the user the placement for whatever gauges they need/want, VAC, TEMP, PRESSURE etc...
for these many variables the gauges that are there are just for you to have a good idea of the final look, also AND THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT:
different gauges/tach brand have different depth so, the pod was build to hold certain max depth anymore than that and you'll have to "cut" the door to fit them, in the install pics/videos we'll go over everything...
next question...

losing the glove box would be something I wouldnt do considering I use the toll 4 times a day

+2. This showed much promise, but I'm not too crazy about that size blocking the door and having to cut into it for the center gauge. Originally I was thinking you were building an exact replica of the one in the pics I posted in the initial thread. Sorry guys, have to pass on this (at least until it's redone)

theres something about it that doesnt look as slick as the TRD one
maybe because the TRD one is smaller and thinner? hmmmmm

I have to agree...It just seems out of place to me...Wish you could make it smaller somehow...

as far as the hole, in the middle, I have explain this many times, the hole WE have is from our old setting, the holder is made to fit everything WITHOUT cutting into the cover, the original TRD (the one you got pics Krayzee) is closer to the glove compartment and I can guarantee you for that you'll HAVE to cut into it to make everything fit (unless the TRD gauges/tach is less than 1" deep, doubt it)...

again, any smaller and you'll HAVE TO CUT into the cover to fit the gauges, I though nobody wanted that...

K I see what your saying now. What if you could just lengthen the center gauge section an inch or two so it's right above the steering column? There's plenty of dead space between the door and the wheel, and it should allow you to shrink the back of the pod just enough to open the door fully. What do you think?

I think a poll is in order to see if opening the door is something the majority of possible customers would want. I put my gauges into that area and I've never missed that little storage space.

I need that space to hold things I would need access to right away if needed like insurance and reg. cards, change, my workout gloves, spare business cards, and sometimes anything that I need to hide from nosy but clueless passengers.

once again you can still use the storage but the door does not open all the way, also the only reason we make it so big is so you dont have to cut a hole in the door to fit your gauges.

any chance you have a pic of the cluster installed w/ how the compartment looks "open"?
i use my upper glove box, but not for anything too important...iirc, there is a set of tweezers, garage door opener, and a $10 american bill in there right now

Ok so, the way we design the holder is for personal customization... What I mean by that is that to install it you have to look for your personal preference:
1- the holder can be install by the 2 bolts and nuts or by hot glue, or by just double sided tape
2- the holder can be moved up or down on the cover for better visibility (if u r a tall guy u might wanna put it higher)
3- depending how low or high u decide to install it the cover will open more or less (low=more, high=less) but you'll stll be able to opened
for that matter we'll re'install it in all diferent way so all your questions/concern will be answered...

jesus christ! a good comment:eyebulge:, H3LlIoN thanks a lot my friend:thumbsup: I was already stating to loose all hope in the holder, the CF unit is going to take a while specially since apparently no one likes the final product (at least not enough to buy it)...it's all good tho...

I think the pod looks good. I would mount it a bit lower (so it basically rests on the steering wheel plastics) but still nice. Its definitely better than my lone tach just hanging out there in space.
nice job.

i get what your saying about making it bigger so you dont have to cut into the driver door
but people are saying they dont want to ruin there door..... if your willing to put 2 bolts through the door anyway who cares at that point
i like the small slim look of the TRD one, i think it just looks a lot less bulky
what would of been really awesome is to make a door replacement that housed these gauges and yet opened!

the install we're doing next weekend will not have bolts or nuts on it, it will be straight on the cover, my only concern is the weight of the tach + gauges and that it may be to much for the glue but we'll see, wait for it gents, maybe twice's a charm...

I'm still a little interested in this, Anubis. Hope you get the details figured out soon.
but people are saying they dont want to ruin there door..... if your willing to put 2 bolts through the door anyway who cares at that point
We already know the door will be ruined as part of the install, bolt-on or glue. The point of not making a giant hole for the center tach is so we don't have to sacrifice any of our storage space
anubisx99
11-09-2009, 10:49 PM
krayzee, I assure you, there's no need to make that giant hole in the middle, as explain before that hole is from our old tach setting, keep in mind that you also need to get a tach like Sunpro or AutoMeter because they're not as deep, also you will need to run the wires somehow and depending what gauges you get even more than wire and drilling is again necessary so, however you look at, a little drilling might be unavoidable...

Okay I see now, it makes perfect sense. In that case I'll keep watching this thread for updates. Oh and sorry if I came off as thread-flaming in any way. I'm sure you understand that anyone who's spending their hard-earn cash on anything will be quite picky for quality and hence a bit of a PITA lol, so no hard feelings
Now let's get this thing going. I'm tired of seeing dark empty space behind my steering wheel. Kinda annoying sometimes

ok, so, last night I installed the holder with hot glue and is holding up pretty good so the glue will be the way to go if you do not want to use the bolt and nut, I have made a video and will be up as soon as I can get it out of the camera, we will include the bolt and nut tho just in case, also DYI with pics and the video will still be up for your convenience...

It might look cleaner if you used a male and female flush mounted bolt in the kit. Similar to whats below. They come in all sizes and colors.

Ok guys here we go. I'm sure that the guys will post up after this and comment on the pod gauge. I respect the guys for creating and producing this piece, and I hope you all will too.
Overall Impressions
I'm going to say overall the piece is ok, but not outstanding. If this is the finished piece, it will require some finishing to look top notch. One note is that these pics are meant to show the flaws as clearly as possible, so please keep that in mind. I probably would have bought this if I hadn't mounted my gauges already, but I'd have it wrapped in CF or finished in some other way. I honestly don't think it's ready to just mount in the car and look great.
The "Problems"
The piece has some flaws. 1 and 4 below are results of the mold itself, and may be difficult to change. The rest are surface flaws, and could be fixed pretty easily.
1. The lip around the edge is completely different on one side than the other. This is a result of the mold.
2. There are numerous marks and pits in the overall surface.
3. Overall, the surface is a little uneven and "wavy".
4. Set against the glovebox, we see a 1/4" gap at the top of the pod where it sets against the dash. I pushed pretty hard with my hand and it didn't close the gap. Not noticeable from inside the car, but it is from the outside (Pics 5 and 6 show this).
ok, so here's the pics.
