In any case, they look nice.

I wouldn't consider buying a catch can unless you can see what is inside it and how it is baffled etc to help the oil vapour condense. Alot that I have seen have nothing inside at all. Cheap but far from ideal.

or you could buy the new MicroImage Branded ones , they are baffled
with S/S Wool from memmory , and they are a great price

Do you know about a particular brand or one you can suggest that suits me best?

No I can't sorry, not one that is readily available over your way anyway. It's just general advice.
I have always made my own to suit the individual vehicle in the past.

How can I know if the catch can I am seeing is good for my engine?

What Dimensions? LxBxH? Is there a rule to calculate with?

What about fittings dimensions? In, Out & Top?

Parmas $100 USD is a little steep.

Ray has some for me to post up and I am just getting in some very nice Simotas that will be less expensive than the one you found there.

In general, the bigger, the better. The larger the volume, the more room for baffles and the more time the oil vapour has to condense and drop out of the air.
My thoughts on size:
Street car running up to 15 psi - 0.5 to 1 litre in volume.
Street car running over 15 psi - minimum 1 litre in volume.
Race car - 2 litres minimum.

Are you sure on that 2litres? We are still talking about a yaris right ?

I think one litre is enough for a weekend 16psi drag race car right?

Will check them for sure if it's a fair price including shipping

Nope, serious. A race (circuit) car (Yaris or otherwise) is probably on boost for at least 50% of the time, compared to a street car which would be lucky to be on boost for 5% of the time. If you are just doing drags, then 1 litre would be heaps.
Do you even have blowby problems in your car or is the catch can just for looks?

What do you mean by "blowby"?

Presently the 2 tubes are just disconnected from the top cover. When I check the enginebay I can see some fumes coming from them also on hot idling especially.

I have nothing coming from those open holes, so I didn't put one in. When I go for road racing, probably will at that point.

What do you mean by "blowby"?

On the compression stroke, some of the compressed air/fuel mixture escapes pass the piston rings to the crankcase. That's called "blowby." The escaping gas (blowby) is forced up the oil drain channels in the block and forces oil and gas (blowby) out of the PCV, which is what the oil can is for. The oil can captures the oil and allows the gas (blowby) to go to the intake manifold.

Does one of the tubes on top continue down into the can to carry the inward vapours to the bottom of the can so that the vapour has to go through the medium before it travels out of the top of the can back to the intake?
Or does the air just take the easiest route and bypass the medium altogether?

Looking good. Will that steel wool ever need replacing?

1NZYaris1
11-13-2009, 02:49 AM
Not at pressent but that is an option , if people want to pay for it
at present the out let is an open air pocket , and the inlet travels through a fine steel wool then into a coarse wool .
The other option is using a oil seperator cone , but again people need to be willing to pay for it .

How easy is it to blow through those filters with your mouth? Are they going to pose a restriction?
