View Full Version : Ram Air Intake?

Has anyone tried or looked at designing a ram air intake for the Yaris? I wonder if we could get any gains by having a ram air intake that actually forces some air into the intake when the car is moving. I admit my ignorance in this matter, but it sounds like that could get a bit of extra air pressure at no extra cost... Any thoughts?

Take a look at this:

Maybe you can fabricate something to force air into the air intake box using this.

I actually made a somewhat ram air in my factory air box. What I did was I had a xtra bottom half of the air box so I cut a round hole in it about 3" and stuck a airduct which was 3" in diameter, I bought at a hardware store. I painted the airduct black so it isn't so noticable. The airduct is placed inside the airbox in a upward position the the air comes straight into the filter and in the intake. It collects air from the fog light outlet. The duct is sealed to prevent noise and ensure fit. I left the factory air inlet just becuase it rains here a bit like 11.75" yesterday, but it I noticed that the airbox is cool even after driving during the day in traffic and highway the box is very cool to the touch, almost as if the engine had not been started all day. As far as rain like I mentioned we had crazy rain here yesterday and I drove through areas where the water came over the hood in the splash and had no concerns about hydrolock. Did not take pics:iono:
I can use my xtra airbox to explain design if anyone wants:smile:

Did it help, did you feel any improvement? Should we start mass production?

I have not felt much on the butt dyno, I will run my Gtech pro this weekend to see where I am at. The biggest improvement is the temp on the airbox which reduced dramaticly.

done properly, you can create a little boost with a ram air intake. Definitely will increase power, but only at higher speeds.
