well...to see how comfortable it was. I spend every weekend out at an airport, so I was weighing it as a long term option, but that ain't happening. I either bringing an SUV or a tent from here on out.

Did you sleep in the seats or in the hatch? If the latter, I would consider a small inflatable mattress if you aren't using one already. Plus, a split-folding rear seat--which lies flatter than the bench, would also be better. Otherwise, have you ever considered just getting a hotel?

I have the split rear...and the seats are not currently in the car, so I just curled up in the footwell of the backseat. Oh and a hotel involves driving, which involves not drinking, and is therefore excluded by default.:drinking:

Ouch! No wonder! But kudos to you for not driving after drinking! And a tent/sleeping back are definitely in order...

Keep the keys out of the ignition. People can get a drunk driving ticket even if they aren't driving. The cops use the intent to drive as a reason to give a ticket.

Actually, I would recommend checking your state laws, as in some locations it is illegal even to be in the car with the keys on your person if you have been drinking...

I believe that's the way it is here in alaska. If you're drunk, you better not be in the car, unless someone else is driving.

I think you guys are right, and it kind of makes me want to sleep drunk with my keys in my pocket til I get arrested and then sue the state.

I wouldn't think the Yaris is that comfortable to sleep in unless maybe you rig up a small mattress in there somehow (remove the front seat?) but even so.

owww.
You have a tagline that says "The next person that says "Get 'r done" is getting stabbed in the face", and yet the subject of your post is a Country song waiting to be written!
It might go something like this:
Before I was drinkin',
I found myself thinkin',
I'll get the car home alright.
But after some hours,
Of shots and some brewskis,
I slept in my Yaris last night.
Seriously though - good move not driving! :w00t:

I've taken like an hour or two nap (during lunch break at work) and I did fine. Not nearly as good as laying the back seats down in the old 4 runner, and having the air-matress + sheepskin rug on top ... those were the days.
but I have a compressed disc in my spine, and I cant rotate / sit like that anymore, so now I make a makeshift bed out of 3 chairs and it works fantastic. plus its in an AC'ed room.
I work graveyard btw (midnight - 8am)

You can't sue the state.
I've slept in mine before. The passenger seat laid back is only ok for a short period of time. Otherwise I can curl up on the bench seat quite nicely.... now that the bench is out, i dunno...

If you put both front seats forward as far as they will go, put the back seats down, and then keep a big comforter in the back... You might be able to pull it off. It would be like a hospital bed.

I removed the passanger seat in my ECHO as well as the rear seat and seat back. Then I made a platform out of 3/4" plywood on about 8" legs that went where the seats were so it was level with what was left of the back seat area. It made for a narrow but sufficiently lenthy sleeping area. I drove around out West for a month at 45 mph seeing the sights and sleeping in the car most every night. I think the whole trips was $800 food gas and occasional motel rooms.
This doesnt seem possible with the Yaris without pretty extensive remodeling. Which is a shame because it might be nice to have the option of living in my Yaris. Given what the politicos are doing to our country.

Can't win, though. They'd have to pass a law to let you.

Shit, that's commitment right there.

 I like how you improvised.
I've been considering doing something similiar since I picked up this little car. Good time to do it because once the recession ends gas prices are going to go up, and up, and up, and up... 400 - 600 miles a day in a Yaris and motel rooms every night is less than half of what traveling around in a typical motorhome would cost.
As for the DWI stuff, in Michigan at least they could care less if you have the keys or not, if they can nail you they will. That's wrong on a lot of levels imo. It's not the A plan, but if someone has had too much to drink and has the sense to be off the road and not driving I say let them be. They're not hurting anyone.

I find the Yaris quite comfortable to sleep in, but i am comparing it to the Miata i've had for the last 8 years, you have no idea what discomfort is all about till you've tried sleeping in a Miata.

Toyota Canada used to offer a tent that worked off the HB. Do a search. Maybe it's still available and an option for you.
