Some dipshit wasn't paying attention on the freeway and rear ended my wife on her way home from work. He said he was going about 50-55mph and she was damn near stopped. The floor of her trunk area looks to be about 10-12 inches higher than it used to be. The tire damage was from the passenger quarter panel/fender,bumper area getting pushed in. I can see daylight through the hole inside the trunk area too. At least she is ok, except for a sore neck and a really sore back.

8,000 worth...and they didn't total it. Kind of pissed me off. It honestly didn't look that bad but I guess since the car model was only 2 years old here in the states, parts were still hard to come by used and had to be bought new directly from the dealer. It spent a month in the shop and came out looking like new.

Hmmm, I looked up KBB on the Yaris.... damn these little bastards keep their value haha retail value is $12,235, but I only owe like $4,500.

To total it doesn't the damage have to be a certain amount of the cars value or something???

I'm betting that they total it. I've been looking into buying some totaled Yaris from the insurance salvage auctions and have seen ones with less damage than that listed with salvage titles.

it has to cost more to repair than the vehicle is worth = totalled. i totaled my 07 last dec.

Generally the damage needs to be greater than 75% of the current market value to be considered a total loss (although this varies from insurance company to insurance company).

I recently totalled my '09 Yaris and the repair bill was $16200......$3000 more than I paid for it!

It's hard to tell if yours will be totalled, but you really do want it to be. Even if they fix it properly, it will forever be branded as salvage so its resale value will always be less than one that was never wrecked. Now if you plan on keeping it and driving it forever then this isn't much of a concern.

Yeah she was at the doctor getting x rays and all that fun stuff, her neck is stiffening up and her back is pretty sore but hopefully its nothing serious. Back and neck injuries suck and become problems later in life so we're going to keep going to the doctor until she feels 100%.

I just got back from the body shop and the guy was telling me that they'll (Farmers) total out my car if the damage is more than 75% of the market value of my vehicle. Edmunds values my car at
trade in: $8,964 private party: $9,871 retail: $10,659

Edmunds seems like a more realistic price than what KBB says my car is worth ($12,235) so hopefully they total it. If they don't total it, I'm going to be stuck with a car that isn't worth shit if I ever trade it in or sell it. Will my insurance fight for me since my car depreciated A LOT because of their (Allstate's) client??? Do you guys think I might get compensated for that???? Plus I don't want my wife to drive a car that will never be the same, and might be structurally compromised.

Here's a pic of the inside of the car where the dipshit hit (the hatch won"t budge):

That's the kind of stuff that really increases the repair quote. It starts with the superficial bumper damage, and then snowballs from there with all of the structural and sheetmetal damage.

My money is still on total.

I would say he was going a lot slower than 55. I got hit in my sedan in the rear at about 20mph last tuesday and the damage estamate is around 1600 bucks. The other guys insurance company, Geigo, is saying it was my fault and wont pay. I was sitting and waiting for a stop light and the 17 yr. rear ended me. Death to the lizard. Hope the wife is ok and no long term affects.

It appears that the 17 old told his Claim rep that I cut him off, which I didn't as I was sitting waiting for a light to change. Only property damage done and under 2000, no damage to his car, the police didn't even do a report. It also appears that the 17 year old had had another accident 10 days prior and trying to save his parents insurance butt by saying I cut him off, but didn't. Will let State Farm, my insurance company, handle it. Geigo says its his word against mine and wont pay.

why?
11-27-2009, 10:45 AM
It sucks when the cops don't do a report. Were there any witnesses? With the punk just having another accident though, eep, good luck with the fight.

Be a man, take responsibility for your actions, wuss... I got rear ended by some dumb teenager (my car was 6 months old at the time) on her cell phone while I was at a dead stop on the freeway, and she dodged the insurance company for almost 2 full weeks - in MN, the 'guilty' party has to admit guilt (no fault state) before their insurance would cover it. I finally got pissed and called my insurance company and they laughed, said 'that's cute she thinks she isn't going to have to pay .... if you want, we will file the claim then sue her and her insurance company'

...I called her insurance company back and told them that my insurance company will file the claim then they can deal with them in court and all of a sudden I got a call from a claims adjuster saying that her parents admitted it was their daughters fault and I could bring my car to the shop at anytime :)

Sometimes, insurance companies can be lame.

To the original poster, I hope that your situation comes out however you would like it to - and try to get the claim settled with open medical! I got rear ended when I was 16 and we never thought to file for medical becuase at the time I felt fine. 8 months later I developed serious back problems that went unnoticed and caused from the accident. You never know how long down the line it will start messing with you! So I hope your wife is OK, and make sure she's covered!

Good luck to you guys ... and your Yaris

I guess earlier I missed a call from the body shop and the estimated damage is $8,396:eek:, and I'm sure that # is going to go up. If they total it I'm probably going to get a base model Civic or a regular cab Tacoma.

No, if you are stopped you are 100% NOT at fault. But, here if you are moving a bit, you can be 50% at fault if the police say you slammed your brakes on or something. It is pretty stupid.

I was rear ended a few weeks ago, the guy was going about 50km/h and it did little to no damage, I was surprised how tough this car is.

41magmag41

No police report done as there was only property damage. Basicly it comes to his word against mine because of the lack of a police report.

Yaris Hilton

Anybody who hits someone else in the rear is at fault. You shouldn't be following closely enough that you'd hit them if they slammed on the brakes unexpectedly.

Farmers totalled it WHOO HOOO!!!!!! Tomorrow I have to meet with the adjuster and go over how much her car is worth. All I have on the car are the Konig wheels and a drop in AFE dry filter. They should cover my wheels since I pay to have $1000 of aftermarket stuff covered.

I gave up on getting a regular cab Tacoma because owning 2 regular cab trucks is pretty retarded. We checked out Mazda 3's the other day, I was actually surprised at how nice they are compared to Corolla's and Civics that are the same price. They look way better too. We are deciding between a Civic coupe or a Mazda3, leaning towards the 3.

I'm wondering how much they'll want for the salvaged Yaris???
