So, eventually it was meant to happen... after all the mods so far went more or less smooth and without problems, I finally screwed up

I took the alternator out and, stupid me, didn't bother to disconnect the battery. Moronic, I know, it won't happen again. When I was putting it back, something happened, some wires touched each other somehow and I had a big spark. Nothing else, no white smoke, no funny smell, I disconnected the battery and finished reinstalling the alternator.

After some troubleshooting and research, I believe I blew one the main fuses that sits on the positive terminal of the battery, #52 in my manual, called ALT 120 A and it's responsible for half the car's electronics...

Those 2 fuses are funny looking and I was wondering where can I find replacements? Pepboys, Autozone or does only Toyota have those?

You might get lucky at a local parts house. Otherwise its to the dealer. Sometimes those main fuses can be costly like 40-75 bucks. You could temporarily and i mean only temporary pop the plastic cover off and solder the fuse back together.

Those places you mentioned should have it. Bring your blown one for them to see.
It might cost a little more than a "normal" fuse but still way cheaper than Toyota.
I replaced some main fuses from my other Toyota at a local parts store.

Is the main fuse the same as the old buss fusible link? I can't tell by the size of it in the pic. If it is a buss, then any auto parts store should have it. I've blown one on my first car after it touched metal (it was a salvage and the body repair shop didn't install a new mounting bracket). It only cost me about $5 at AutoZone at the time.

Edit: this might help: http://www.autozone.com/autozone/catalog/parts/partsShelf.jsp?displayName=Fusible+Link&currentPage=1&categoryDisplayName=&vehicleNValue=3071501&navValue=15700361&itemId=361-0&parentId=57-0. My money's on the 4th one

Look in this thread. Has a pic and the part number. You can fix that one in the mean time, let me know if you need some help on how to.

Thread necro!

I blew my ALT fuse this morning. The plastic cover to the alternator is no longer present (broke off when installing the supercharger), and I contacted it when trying to tighten the alternator bolt. It's a Toyota-only part, not stocked at my dealership. Good news is it's only $18, bad news is it won't be here until tomorrow. I ordered 2 so that I don't leave myself stranded like this again.

Been there done that. I thought it could've been that, and I have a tow service, towed to the dealer on a Saturday, they didnt get the part till Tuesday and charged two hours labor. Part is less than $20 at the dealer, dont think they make an aftermarket.
