Well it looks like Ford should have a winner on its hands with the Fiesta.
119 hp, 109 ft./lbs. or torque
5-speed manual or 6-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox
30 mpg city, 40 mpg highway (with automatic)
Pretty impressive.

Personally i think they should have changed the name to something cooler sounding. Many people may shy away from it because they dont want to be known as driving a ford fiesta. They dont have the highest reputation as a "cool" car. Hopefully this might change that image a bit.

Many cars sold in the US are built in Mexico. And I do mean MANY.

Yea, that's why I think it's funny when people say, "Buy American because it's made in the good ol US of A Woooooo hooooooo *gun fires in the air*" when a lot of American cars are built elsewhere, meanwhile Toyotas has some of it's cars actually built in their plant in Kentucky lol
But really why is it a big deal? Globalization is the name of the game when it comes down to international business. Cheaper labor = lower means of production = higher profits
On Topic: Ive seen a few of them running around downtown LA, they look a bit weird to me, and I'm curious to see the real world MPG

Ford also claims the PowerShift six-speed operates with sealed internal lubrication, making it maintenance-free. That means you'll never have to check or change transmission over the vehicle's expected 10-year, 150,000-mile lifespan.
that makes me never want to buy a ford

You're entitled to your opinion, but I don't get what basis you have for speculating that the fiesta will "die" any sooner than other cars. Pretty much every brand of modern car on the road - other than Chrysler passenger cars - seem to be capable of 200k+ miles with reasonable maintainence.
The last 5 years or so of Ford motors have been as good as any, and I am a long-time Ford hater.
That being said, if they decide to bring the European Fiesta RS to the US, I'll probably be selling my Yaris. The Top Gear "test" sold me!

No, the STI will have to do. Probably around the same price as one and not a Ford.

$13,320 for the sedan, and $15,120 for the hatchback. I think they're pretty good looking, but can get a little pricy ($20,540 as shown .)

It looks like Ford has a better chance of surviving than GM.
of course they do, ford didn't take a government bribe.

That's because the got lucky with a few choices they made previous to the fallout. It's not like the Ford execs are any smarter than anyone else, which is probably why you don't see them running around too much bragging about their financial genius...

Lucky? It didn't have too much to do with luck. Ford was smart enough not to have a gazillion different car brands, and even more dealers. Plus ford cars have always been slightly better than gm or chrysler. And that F150 thing helps too. How many years straight has it been the top selling vehicle?

Ford didn't take a bailout because they have been living out of a nearly $27 billion credit account they set up in 2006 and were already closing dealers and cutting production prior to the collapse. So, yes, they are brilliant for taking out loans, closing dealers, cutting production and firing many, well ahead of their competition.

The price is a bit higher though. I built one on the ford site and it was right at 19. But that was pretty much every option i could ever think about wanting.
But then agian. Building the yaris as close as I could to the same it came out to 18.5 and couldnt even get a manual in the 5 door. So.
yeah.

This car really impresses me. In fact, Ford is beating all expectations with every model it introduces. I can't see myself ever leaving Toyota, but if Ford keeps doing what it's doing, they'll be hard to resist.
If that 30/40 mpg rating holds up through the EPA testing, then this is a game changer for non-hybrids. The Yaris is the current leader with a 29/36 rating (although it's underrated) but I suspect like most cars, the Fiesta will beat EPA estimates as well. It's that 6th gear that makes all the difference. Toyota needs to follow suit.
The interior quality sets a new standard for this class as well currently set by the Fit. Although space efficiency isn't as good as the Fit, Yaris, and Versa.
My only lagging concern with Ford is long term reliability (Toyota and Honda level). You know, being able to go 300,000-400,000 miles on the original engine with little issues. If they can prove that, then their set.

Actually in the months prior to the banking crisis Ford took out loans on several plants and technical centers, to increase cash on hand, making government loans unnecessary.
I don't think it was luck that made them suddenly decide to stock up on millions in cash.
Maybe when your good enough you don't have to brag.

Sadly, even though Ford is doing the best, they have the most debt to overcome because they avoided bankruptcy. Although GM is close if you count bailout money that they say they will pay back.

There's no arguing the new Fiesta is a nice car and obviously Ford has put much thought into this. Afterall, it is a blooming segment and Ford wants in as once a very strong contender in this segment with the Fiesta. In the meantime, others have passed it in terms of quality, design and features, but I think the Fiesta could bring Ford back into the small car game.
