Yaris 09 1.33 tire pressure

Hello everyone from sunny (for a change) England. I bought my new 5d 1.33 Yaris about two weeks ago and I ve already done about 400 miles and I love it. Of course it feels a bit different to my previous ford puma (its engine blew up in october off the motorway after it was fully serviced but that's a different story and hence I wanted something mechanicaly reliable, quite fast but also more economic and I can already tell that its mpg is superb).

Anyway my question has to do with tire pressure and might be related to less oversteering as steering feels very light in low speeds (I know it's meant to be quite like this). I checked the manual and it says 33psi front and 32psi rear for this engine, when you go under 100mph (I go max 80-85mph when I commute to work) and I checked the pressures this morning and they were 35psi front and 34psi rear. Do you think it's worth changing them to the recommended values? Thanks in advance. :cool:

It really depends on your tyres , but i would say no way if anything bump your tyres upto 38psi .
as for the steering thats is normal , with powerassist electric steering :thumbsup:

Thanks for the reply :smile: My tires are continental premium contact 2, 185/60 R15 84H. To be honest I like the current mpg so I don't know whether it makes sense to lower the pressure by 2psi...

Im using 40 psi front and rear on my 09 Yaris. I dont see any dif in ride handleing etc but then I keep to about 45 mph.

That's good to know. I am definitely considering the rear sway bar as the only thing that I don't like that much is the body roll when I go with like 80mph in corners as I was used to the puma which had really good handling as a sports car. Would it affect my insurance though? (as it's a mod)

Fanatics run 60PSI for maximum MPG. Sure it's over the posted recommended value but I did call them fanatics...

Let your engine and suspension break-in. The steering will become more stable.

It's not too bad, I was just used to cars with more sporty suspensions like the puma or a seat ibiza from 02 to 07 and I also had an opel corsa as a courtesy car for a month and it felt more stable above 70mph (although you could feel the crosswind above that speed especially on slippery surface) but anyway, I m just considering the rear sway bar as I commute to work through the motorway and we get some horrible weather in winter but I wonder whether it s bad for my insurance as they ask you whether you've made any mods...

I can't believe it, I rang my dealership to ask them if they want me to buy it so they can fit it or if they can get hold of one and they didn't even know what it was. I told them if you go to toyota.com you'll see it among the yaris accessories and they were like err we don't know what it is and the car should feel stable at 70mph and we cannot do anything to make it handle better above 70mph as it's the legal limit and other bullshit.. doh! I wouldn't mind doing it myself but I've never done anything like that so I don't know whether I should trust my beloved yaris to a random garage.. :frown:

i wouldn't trust it to a random garage, but surely there is someone you know who has a mechanic that they trust.

the rear sway bar is real easy to fit :thumbsup:, there is a couple of diy's
on here to show you how , you sure wont regret it thats for real .
all that is requireed is undoing 2 bolts , slipping in the sway bar
and installing the 2 extra bolts that come with it . 15-20mins work and you are done :thumbup:
