drag yaris vs matrix

stopped by the dragstrip on my way into work this morning and a 09+ matrix cut someone off to get beside me at the lights

i took off slow-ish in first and kept pace w/ the matrix and tried not to lose ground shifting into second. well, i guess me keeping beside him meant i wanted to race so he got on it.....so i stayed in second gear and ran it up, shifted into third and started to creep up from beside him.

he let off and i got in front of him as i needed to make a left up ahead.....he got over to the other lane and passed me after i slowed....to my surprise it was an XR...

it must have been an auto, but i was surprised i kept up with it. right now my only mods are a resonator-back exhaust and a k&n drop-in filter in the airbox. i imagine the matrix was stock

i've already done the math on this..

the matrix XR has a lower power to weight ratio then a yaris.

so there's no surprise that it "lost"

I have a similar story about my 03 XRS and a ford focus getting onto the highway. There is more stupidity in mine but basically it came time to shift or hit lift and I punched it... he got squirrelly going around the corner trying to keep up and my trix just sat into the corner and merged into traffic at 65! Not illegal, not speeding, just one less focus thinking he's cool!
