07 Yaris hatch..
This has always run perfect and quiet... almost silent at idle..
We just had 5 days of 15-25 below 0 at night... I started it a couple times only for a half hour or so the whole time... I went on a road trip today and have a new noise... When its idle and you rev it a little
it kind of winds down like on a slight delay after you let go of the pedal. Like a kind of whine following the engine sound...it makes the sound reving up and down..
it sounds like some cheap cars sound all the time....its not a scream
or grind..just a following delay sound with a plastic overtone...
I checked and nothing is rubbing..
I dont like this new development...I am used to perfection from the
Yaris....
What do you think...???mechanics...??

Read that a couple of times, and I still get kinda lost in it. I'm guessing maybe it's the serpentine belt. They can tend to make some noise as they get older, and especially in the deep cold.

I feel your pain.... with the cold weather here, my yaris makes a rattle noise when you rev it.....sooo annoying.

hey... it happened to mine last year... it turns out to be the water pump getting seized up. It would only do it when cold at first... and then as the weather got colder.. it did it more and more...

finally replaced the water pump

Really, mine does this wierd noise now that its below freezing, if I leve it in drive or reverse and just tap the gas just a bit, even with no brakes applied, it makes a wierd sound like something is really wrong.

Is this covered by warranty? Or how much is it to buy it, and how much work goes into changing it out?

redo your anti freeze to 75 % concentrate instead of the standard 50%
