17K miles not a scratch on it until this. This is what happens when deer are in rut. Was driving along at 45 mph, and out of nowhere BLAM into the quarter panel. So she is at the body shop now getting a new quarter panel, and quarter glass. WATCH FOR DEER!!!

holy shit...

i don't like rear quarter damage... They either fix it, pull it back up and bondo lots, or cut it out and solder a new quarter panel to it.

I did not get the deer. I had my 12 gauge with me, but could not take a shot because it was in a residential neighborhood. I approached it, and was going to stand on its throat to suffocate it, but it limped off into the woods. I took it to a body shop we deal with at work. They do exellent work. It is getting a new quarter panel, I hope it turns out good.

I hit a deer last April and it was about $1800 to get fixed, so I know your pain. Mine was hit in the front pass. fender, door and back quarter panel.

I would not worry. It will look and be as good as new.
Body shops deal with this kind of damage routienly

Personally, I would rather have the kind of relatively minor rear quarter damage that you have as opposed to hitting a dear head on

My sister lives in the mountains by a road they nicked named Hamburger Alley. It is best to go 10 under the speed limit at night time.

Two years ago, I traveled to Washington state and going inland from the coast in a very wooded area about a mile ahead I saw a big SUV jam on the brakes and swerve. It drove on and then pulled over. A dually construction pick up pulled over and as I approached I saw two men loading a dead deer onto the pick up. The SUV had one fender and the grill smashed in. It looked like a lot of damage. The winners were the guys who picked up the road kill!

Sorry about your accident.:frown:

Update: Went to the body shop today just to get an idea what the estimate was, and it hasn't been written yet. The lot at the body shop was full of cars, so it looks like they are very busy. Looks like it is going to be a few weeks...

Estimate is 2800. May look into trading it when I get it back... I like the new 5door Yaris. I hate the idea of having a car that has had bodywork done. :frown:

The winners were the guys who picked up the road kill! Maybe, maybe not.. It's possible to knock out a deer and it will seem dead. When it wakes up, you'll have a live deer in your vech and it will kick out all your windows and tear up your interior. Then bites you while you're trying to drive. Yes, it's happened before.

Ouch! Glad you are okay. We hit one head on at 40 mph 300 miles from home. It messed the front of our new Yaris up pretty badly. I was still able to bungie the hood down and drive it back home (with perfect alignment I might add!) and still got 37 mpg! It was $7,500 in damage and it took 3 weeks for it to get fixed. This was back in early 2006 when the Yaris was still new to the US.

Sorry to hear that you car was damaged

I live in deer Country, I have had some close calls before. In the car & on Motorcycles.

This last summer I was doing about 45mph in the back country, When I saw the lead deer on my right hand side and slammed the brakes hard, My Brother In law almost nailed me (he was riding a Goldwing & was following behind me) seven deer ran accross the rode in front of me. that was on a Honda Goldwing

I have had them sitting in a ditch on the side of the rode eating and not seen them until you pass by same as you, and feel very lucky afterward.
