We got SIX Yarii to turn out for today's autocross. There were only two run groups, so we worked 1 and drove 2. No time for pics of each other racing, unfortunately.
It was cold, wet and SUPER FUN.

They changed the course last minute because this whole corner was under 2 feet of water -- don't go off course there!

Those are good pictures, Garm. You could almost feel the traction giving out from looking at the pavement.
If I had my video camera going, I could have posted a panoramic view of the course as I did my 360 spin.

Nice.
Out of curiosity, how much does it cost to play?

^$30 online or $40 on-site + $15 weekend membership = 3 runs. $25 for extra runs after you get addicted

Is that an SCCA sanctioned auto-x? We don't allow carbon fiber in H-stock.
OTOH, it is cool to see yaris driven hard. Unfortunately there are no yaris competitors in hawaii besides me (well a fellow auto-x'er raced his mom's HB once).

we all "claimed" H Stock so we could be in the same run group. I would definitely not be in HS for points, probably SM

Yes, it's SCCA

That's why we used the "X" to indicate time only runs. We wouldn't want to mess up someone who's actually trying to get points!

I'm going through the 2009 rule book now. I don't see how I could be in anything less than SM, but probably not Street Prepared.

If you don't mind competing in a California-only class, search for "CST" or "CSM" in the following link on the Solo2 webpage. Basically, anything goes.
2009 CSCC SUPP REGS
"Vehicles eligible for CSM must be capable of being licensed for street use in California..." is open to interpretation due to CARC restrictions. I run CSM but might switch to CST. I have to see which one has the best factoring.

56 secs + 1 cone knocked over for a 2 sec penalty.

Garm: 80.333+DNF, 71.621+1, 54.010
Noogie: 81.274, 72.915+1, 56.293 (doesn't show you knocking one down!)
Jesus: 64.653, 58.058+DNF, 59.505
Other three, should I post those times? Would it be wrong if I did?
A civic actually broke into the 40s with a 48 sec run!. The karts were in the low 40's!!!

I think the all seasons had an advantage on the wet tarmac? lol
I'm in favor of posting our times at the top since we all.....well I guess not ALL of us have already posted our times lol. It was such a blast to improve on every run.

wouldn't SM be more favorable than a C (unlimited) class?
LtNoogie
12-14-2009, 02:59 AM
CST multiplies with 0.858
CSM multiplies with 0.876
SM multiplies with 0.867
Also, the raw times for the guys running SM are quite low. If I get better, my times could be competitive with the guys in CST.

I ran my CRX in SM at a prior event and had my butt handed to me!
here are some of their times for this course: Camaro SS - 45 sec, Integra - 46 sec, 240sx - also in te 40s.
Man, this is too much fun. Im awaiting the 2010 Rules so I can prepare my CRX for SST, or SSM, or something with an "S" LOL

street tires suck though. Garm, you're making too much power to be on street tires. get some 15X9's and 275 35 15 hoosier A6's and try not to flip the car! :D

^It's better we stick to street tires until Winter passes. There was still a chance of rain that morning. Luckily we didn't get anymore, but still weren't 100% sure if the pavement would dry out completely in time for our group.

Not in such a rush to pick up a set of sticky tires myself. I was always told to first learn the cars characteristics on regular tires, and now I see why :burnrubber:

my guess is, he's running spacers with stock length lugs. stripped the threads right off.

Similar thing happened here several years ago.
The person was on 2 wheels and came down HARD. They of course checked everything out and it seemed ok. Then the following season; the lugs just snapped. People guess that the metal was just internally damaged which set it up to fail from fatigue. The person, in this case, was not new and definitely torqued everything down.
The other occurrence I've heard about was someone borrowed some wheels and lugs(so the taper matched). But it turns out they were a slightly different thread, so they torqued, but mid corner the lug slid right off.
