Today was a great day of racing and comradrarie. We managed to get 6 Yarii to race at the event (4 of them noobs)! Normally, it's just me or me and JustJesus. People were taking pictures because they'd never seen so many Yarii.

Participants were:

arcticvitz
Cali Yaris
ddongbap
K r a z e e . J o Jo

The course started out pretty wet so it was an interesting set of runs. I spun out twice out of four runs. I'll let the others discuss their runs.

Pictures to follow, I hope.

1NZ and YAR1S, there's bound to be some good action shots of us on the SCCA forums soon. Patience is a virtue

Oh yeah, I forgot that we got to see one car lose its front left wheel. The car came to a screeching halt. The wheel continued on at 30 mph almost directly at ddongbap. I thought that only happened on YouTube.

That's something that'll be forever remembered. I've never seen with my naked eyes a loose wheel run wild going that fast LOL

Meanwhile, on the other coast... a little better news for the Yaris contingent.

I had the only Yaris at an autocross with about 55 drivers. I didn't "officially" drive my Yaris, I was co-driving a friend's Integra (the one that finished just ahead of me, I almost caught him on my last run!). But, I did take a couple runs in the Yaris (with a full tank of gas, spare and jack in the back, and nearly dead tires) that were good for reference. My 6th and 7th runs were in the Yaris.

No MINI Coopers this time, but the Focus club was out in full force... and every one of them got spanked by a Yaris. :headbang:

Loren, it's a good thing that you got 7 runs. 30 to 40 seconds a run seems so short. When we race the old El Toro airfield, the course length is 50% longer than the 50 second we just did.

Noog, I was the chairman for this event, and 35-40 seconds was the target. You see, we didn't just get 7 runs, we got closer to 20!

I set up two separate courses, one for competition and one for practice. We split into 3 groups so that one was driving the comp course, one was working the comp course and the other was "fun-running" the practice course at all times.

So, yeah, the courses were a little short, but we used up a lot of rubber! Most drivers got 10 runs on the comp course. I only got 9 because I was co-driving, which made it harder for us to hustle and get in line to run as much as the single-driver cars did. I didn't count my practice runs, but I think I took at least 3 in my car, one each in a pseudo STi (JDM-swapped WRX), a turbo 240SX (redeemed former drift car), a VW Golf, an Acura Integra and a Z06 (which I spun spectacularly right before the finish after completing an otherwise acceptable run).

BTW, the STi driver and the Z06 driver each took a run in the Yaris and both came back smiling and complementing the handling and responsiveness.

WHUUUUUUT?!?!?! That is awesome!

NOOGIE, let's take a road trip out there! yeeeeeaaaah. LOL

I had fun as always. Worked the first group, so I was seeing skilled drivers spinning out. As such, I took it WAY too easy my first lap out. 2nd lap was oh-so-smooth. Awesome lap. So good, I got carried away at the end there, hit a cone (my first cone ever - awww) and missed the last one in the final slalom and DNF. Hell of a run. My 3rd, pretty decent, but not as good as 2nd.

Good times all in all. Looking forward to the next one.

Loren, keep representing us out there! Keep up the good work.
