I'll set the same standard as you Jesus  I'm still hoping my paperwork from SCCA gets here soon so I can get my membership (the gf said she'd pay for the rest as an x-mas gift :headbang:) she might even come with me to this event. I've also got a couple friends of mine interested in trying it out so we might have a pretty large group, who knows, I CAN"T WAIT!!!11!!1 :burnrubber:

Count me in!

Not much to it. Just clear out your car of any loose things that can be tossed around during the run. If you don't have your own helmet just yet, have your DL ready if you need to borrow a crusty loaner (I'll be buying headsocks this weekend if you wanna borrow one), and if you're nervous there are instructors on-site to ride with you and build your confidence.

Oh yeah, and don't get hypnotized by "the lake"

Is a motorcycle full face helmet OK? like a KBC alright?

I wanna say yes for the bike helmets, but I'm still not sure myself. I'm still researching helmets and trying to figure out what works and what doesn't. So far I got a feeling it doesn't matter as long as it's got a min. 95-Snell rating. If I can't decide by this week I'll run down to Super Autotoyz this weekend and see what they got. PM me your number if you wanna roll along.

Don't get it from Autotoyz. www.extremesupply.com

Btw, SA2005 is about the highest rating you can get. As long as you get that, you're good.

Btw, if you want me to snag you some headsocks, let me know. I'll get some for free.

Solo2 aren't too concerned with what helmets you get. As long as it has one of the following certs.

http://cms.scca.com/documents/Solo_Rules/2009_helmet_certification_bulletin.pdf

Remember, SA2005 is highest rating by Snell. So if you get that, you'll be good for nearly everything else.

And no, fullface doesn't matter. There were people rocking half face helmets.

I think I am more nervous in the fact that I have not driven a car in 5 years, and mine has less then 500 miles on it. I am loving driving the Yaris over my motorcycle though. I want to get some good usage of the stock tires before I drop some coin on my new rims and tires and thought the auto X would be a fun way to do it.

Yeah if you are gonna hit up Super Autotoyz I am down to meet ya there, would be nice to start meeting peeps from the site.

Yup yup. I think as long as it's Snell. My friend took his motorcycle one, just fine.

Speaking of which, for all you wanting to buy one, here's some on the cheap. Thanks TAMAGO for posting the link.

Everyone gets nervous, Then you get over it! It's fun. And don't sweat it much. Keep the revs on the slightly lower side. I have yet to hit 3rd gear, and the runs are only like a minute long. Not too crazy as far as abuse.

Dude, i hit like 0923091230 cones. I'm sure the course workers weren't too excited about seeing me hit the track.

I hit my first cone  Surely not my last. But I wanted to go at least 3 events with a perfect no-cone record. booo hooo boooo hoooo

I'm sticking this decal on my helmet for the next race.

LOL - do it. My boss just gave me a foam orange cone! Funny thing is, he doesnt know I do autocross.

Thanks for the info and link, ddong. I just saw a really sweet one that's way out of my price range. Looking at the material I'm sure Garm already got one lol.

I'm down for some free headsocks though. Hook it up!

They always have "cash" prices. Call them up and ask them. They're in Long Beach, and don't mind local pickup.

They also allow you to try any helmets on so you can feel the best one for u.

I they do allow motocycle helmets I have a spare one. L or XL. I will have to look in the garage for it.

Jan. 10 -- I'm in. Might even practice on the 9th, but probably not.

Noogie, do you have a points card? Should I get one?

LtNoogie
12-16-2009, 08:23 PM
If you want to really compete next year, you need a points card. With a points card, you select a permanant number against which all your scores are collected for the year-end tally. After all, the Sunday races are real Championship races.

My permanent number is "425". When I asked for a new number "125", I got this response:

"Reminder to please choose another number as #123 is in the range of 1-199 held for long-standing members"

Also, in order to get a points card, you have to join a local team. I joined Team No$ (pronounced No Bucks) because we do not hold meetings and do not charge dues.

I wonder what the conditions are to have a team/club that SCCA approves.

Team Yaris, for example.

LtNoogie

They are actually called Clubs.

http://www.solo2.com/clubs.asp

I just know that clubs have to host and run the monthly autocross events on a rotating basis. The clubs tend to be quite large and require a dedicated group of people to provide core leadership and organization.

cali yaris
12-16-2009, 10:37 PM
good goal for the future. I put in a request to No Bucks

and posted on the Solo forums about classing. Might stick with my street tires and CST instead of CSM.

Yes you should. All the cool kids are doing it! I'm rocking #226 (nobody noticed ???) LOL, all the cool kids.

Sucks that I couldn't change it to a 1-199 number :(

hehe...Garm, I actually considered starting a club. Team Yaris would be bad ass. But, like Noogie said, it would take a group of dedicated people. And maybe a rather large number? D'OH

I might go for practice day. But the event day is too expensive for just a few runs.

My friend had gotten nearly 35 runs throughout the day at Speed Ventures.

justjesus
12-17-2009, 03:10 AM
DDONG! you going for sure? I'm likely in for the Sunday run. 35 runs sounds dreamy.Maybe too dreamy?

ddongbap
12-17-2009, 03:59 AM
Nah. It happens all the time in Speed Ventures events. They don't care about rankings. Which, I don't either. I just want to practice. So they just constantly send people.

So, because of that, I don't think I'll want to do the Solo events as often. Esp this Jan, since I got two other events I'm going to be attending. But we'll see.

cali yaris
12-17-2009, 12:01 PM

It was a beautiful day to race today. The course was laid out really well, the weather was great and it was fun to go up against Jason Gamble (Jesus) and Terence Chang (Aaron). The race officials have a knack of getting our names wrong.

I wish they would give me an cool race car driver name!

so jealous. How were your times? And Noogie, how many races do you have to do (or can you miss) and still make the season in terms of points? Do you have to go to every one?

justjesus
01-11-2010, 03:08 AM
^Garm, I don't believe you have to make every event. It only helps to make as much as you can for points sake (if you're looking to win). But, one must place for points. yay...let's place

Indeed, it was a good race day. The layout was fabulous. Easily my favorite one to date.
