I have to share.. My 3dr has to be the best car I've ever had in the snow its an 09 5speed with general arctic altimax 185/65/15 winter tires x 4.. I have yet to get stuck or drag bottom. the weather channel is calling for 14 inches of snow by Sunday here in Northwestern PA. I'm looking forward to my commute to see how it handles the additional white stuff but so far so good! for those who have had difficulties with their Yari in the snow this is a testament to how big of a difference a good set of winter shoes will make!

this is a Tire rack review of the tires..Go get a set!

It's amazing what a good set of snow tires will do, eh? I, too, am running snow tires (185/65/14).

I have the same tires on my '10 hatchback, except in stock 185/60-15 size. We haven't had a lot of snow yet, but I haven't had any issues with the storms so far this year.

even better would be a 175/65/14, much more stable when changing lanes as the tires cut trough the snow/slush
think 10mm/corner makes that much difference? i have 185 winters, but they have a really open tread....i pass in the slush like it was dry pavement...

after driving a 86 chevy scottsdale truck, 86 jeep cherokee, a 97 mazda 626, a dodge caravan, a few box vans(for work back in college), and now the 08 3dr 5speed all in the snow..... I'm a big believer in that the tires you have make by far the biggest difference in how well a car handles in snow than the car itself.
With that said... rear wheel drive vehicles can be a bit nerve racking sometimes if you don't have lots a weight in the back and good tires.... Oh and 4WD is a gimmick.

Those General Altimax Arctics are the best snows i have ever owned. i have them in 175/65-14 on my steelies and they ROCK! second winter on them and the studs are still good, no slips or slides (except when i want to :) )
when this set wears out, going to get another set.

yeah except yours are on those snazzy silver steelies. I might have to pull the wheel covers off mine and go for the hardcore snow belt look..

lulz. tell that to my 99 4runner while I do controlled circles around almost any other vehicle on the road in 2 feet of snow

unless all those vehicles you are doing circles around are running the same exact tires as you, your example is invalid. I used to pass snow plows @ highway speeds in my mazda when I had studded tires.... it was about the tire, not the car. And that mazda sure didn't have 4wd
