Well, I was getting onto the highway and all of sudden my yaris just stopped at 60mph....wouldnt go any faster..so i pulled over on the side of the highway, waited around for a good 10 minutes. Then I attempted to get back on the highway, then the yaris wouldnt go over 40mph and the check engine light came on....

so i pulled over again, called a tow guy to tow it to the the nearest dealer....cost me $180.... :(

I still have no word on what the problem is...:frown:

Having to pay for the tow?
I believe my Yaris comes with a three year warranty that includes free roadside assistance (I am in Canada). May be I have to check again:iono:.
Edit: Just checked. According to the Owner's Manual Supplement, roadside assistance benefits include towing to the preferred Toyota dealership within 50 km or to the nearest Toyota dealership within 300 km.

my roadside assistance was only good for $50....the rest came out of my pocket...actually it all had to come out of my pocket first, i have to contact toyota for the reimbursement.

thanks. Is it that the air filter was clogged. I don't understand his Cold air intake as having problems. Is that just the regular air intake..

The CAI is an a mod that you can put in yourself to increase the performance of your engine (and make it sound good too  ). AEM is just the manufacturer.

Here's and example and some more info: http://www.autoanything.com/air-intakes/aem.aspx

That's pretty lame of the mechanic. I guess he couldn't blame it on your shorty antenna. You should have asked him to explain how it could have caused a misfire. He was BS-ing you.

A cold air intake is NOT going to cause an electrical misfire not unless the filter was over oiled and has soaked the MAFS and it's not reading acurately.
Sounds to me like you may of had a bad spark plug in that cylinder.

You hit it on the nose...bad spark plug....

no way my intake had anything to do with it....
well the intake is staying put....i know that baby didnt cause the problem..

i drove around lastnight and this morning, no problems...so...im back as new....
now all i need to do is wait 7-10 business days for my 17s...

so did he replace the plug, or just assume it was the CAI? or did it randomly start running fine again?
in some cases a CAI can cause the car to run shitty (ie: wrx, 9-2x), but i have never hurd of one cause a sudden problem like what you described...

hope your problem is solved....

Glad to hear you found the problem and it wasn't anything major.

Also, regarding this post..
No it doesn't. Reference the "Magnuson Moss Warranty Act". Read up: http://www.semasan.com/main/main.aspx?id=60128Had the modification (your intake) been the cause of the problem, then no, warranty would not cover the repairs. For instance, had the CAI blown the MAF or if it threw the ECU for a loop, then you and your modification would be held liable as it was not a Toyota defect. Just wanted to throw this out there for clarity.

This is why I'm saving my pennies and getting the TRD Intake from Toyota. A bit more expensive, but it maintains your warranty.

Great news. Glad it was just an odd little problem. Thanks for sharing so others might know what to do if something like that happens to them.
