San Antonio Yaris Meet - Sunday, 25 Apr/4pm - Freebirds World Burrito

Since this was somewhat buried in the Texas thread, I thought I would start up a separate one just in case anyone didn't see it there...

There will be a San Antonio Yaris Meet on Sunday, 24 January 2010 at 4:00pm at the Smashburger at Bandera Point (Bandera Road and 1604, in the same strip mall as the Target).

Better to park in the larger lot on the front side of the restaurant, and not the two-row one to the side...

If ya think you can make it, post up! I know there is a gun show this weekend, but if you plan to go to that then you need to go early for the best deals. By Sunday all the good stuff is gone!

Anyhow, we hope to see ya there! Make sure your Yaris is washed for pics! :w00t:

That sounds about right: you (Cosmonaut), Yarrris-Wench, YotaYaris (who is out of town until the end of Feb), evimalin and myself (MadMax). Andruboz is up in New Braunfels so that could be the sixth. The majority of folks from Texas on here are in DFW and Houston.

But I don't feel bad, the first (or second, no one seems to be sure) Yaris Yak in Dallas only had three Yarii at it. We should be able to beat that with our second meet. I keep trying to catch folks in their Yarii and hand out cards I made up with this site's URL on them; but I think some people believe it is for a tuning shop or something and not an online forum for Yaris owners...

We're looking to meet up again soon, but with the state-wide hopefully in April at Temple/Lake Belton there may be a group heading up for it if you're interested in joining up.

I'm not partial to any particular place. Didn't you say we were trying to go to temple/belton area? does that mean we'll all meet up in sa (the sa crowd) and then convoy up? or are you wanting to have a small pre-state meet here?

I have not heard of anything about a Texas-wide meet, although it was discussed before the recent DFW meet. They were suppose to talk about it, come up with a proposed date, and post but nothing was every mentioned.

It'd be nice to have a SA meet in the coming weeks, we'd probably be able to get a half dozen or so cars together if the timing is right. The question is, where?

Fralo's Pizza in Leon Springs might be a good idea, although it is popular and usually crowded. It would be nice to find a place that has a lot of parking where we can mass the cars together...any ideas?

hmmm.. well whats a general area for everyone? I know bunsen burgers off of walzem where the old target used to be has good food and plenty of parking, even if we have to move down a few rows from the actual place it'd work. Not sure about any place else .. i'll have to brain storm but thats the one that comes to mind.

That's a good suggestion, although Freebird's over off of 151 & Potranco makes a pretty damn good burrito as well! They've also got a side lot which would work, and if anyone wants a burger, Five Guys is just a few doors down...

Plus being off of 410, it's easy to get to from other parts of SA. But The Rim is closer to me, so either work.

Yep generally Saturdays & Sundays for me as well. I'm easily close to 151 & freebirds is pretty amazing.. but im up for which ever is easiest for everyone. :) I would suggest April 3/4th, 10/11th, or 17/18th ???? those are all 2 weeks or more out for you Kimmy & that gives you other guys dates to pick from. Any takers???

Yeah, my work schedule just went upside down as well. The contract I was supporting ran out of money and was terminated, and I am now working on a completely different program that requires shift and weekend work. I have no idea what my calendar looks like for the near future...

Seriously, I just got word that alternate funding was found, so I will continue on a normal schedule for the time being. As such, we need to get a rocking and a rolling on putting an April Yaris meet together. Weekends are good, preferably not Saturday nights as I try to avoid driving around here late on that night. A late afternoon meet would work, or the same on Sunday.

Since Kimmy can't make it the weekends of 10-11 or 17-18, is 24-25 April too far down the road? Actually, late afternoon (say around 4:00pm) on Sunday the 25th might work best, but everyone needs to say if that's good with them.

Secondly, as for location, I'd propose Freebird's/Five Guys at 151/Potranco because 1) it has a side parking lot that would be a great place to gather, and 2) there is a choice of burritos or hamburgers, and both are delicious.

Let me know what you think, and we'll finalize the details.

Thanks for the info Madmax. Truth be told I don't think I'm gonna go though. Trust me I want to and I hate flaking out but the more I think about how late in the day the meet is and what time I'll be getting home I just can't justify the trip. That was pretty amazing having you guys show up at FREEB!RDS in such a seemingly random way! The pics look Great!! And as long as I get enough notice, perhaps I'll be able to join y'all at the next meet and I won't have to be sporting the apron, nor will I have a filthy vehicle to park next to.

As for the cleanliness of the cars, they all look good in the pics so no worries. It wasn't a competition as to who had the cleanest car, it was a gathering of friends and their wonderful Yarii! As Yarrris-Wench can attest, we had three times the participation of the previous meet, which is awesome! :thumbup:

We're gonna have to start planning another one later this month. It may just be another meet at Freebirds (which is fine by me), but given that someone's close to adding another member to the Yaris family, we should try to get together one more time before that glorious event occurs.

Heck, we could even make it a mini Yaris "baby shower" for the parents-to-be! :w00t:

This next week would be a decent one, but it'd have to be earlier, I've got to lower the flag over the weekend, so I've got to be home by about 4pm. The next weekend might be good, the weekend of the 21st, but the one after that is Memorial day weekend, so I'm not sure who'd be up for that though. That's our last possible weekend as a couple though, lol.

4:00pm would work best for several reasons...first, it was the same time we met last time. Freebirds wasn't too crowded, but it was hot outside!

Secondly, if Kimmy is in town I would suspect the earlier time would benefit her if she's planning to drive the 3 hrs back to CC that evening.

So unless anyone has any major objections, how about this Sunday, 23 May, at 4:00 at the Freebirds World Burrito at 410 and 151? If anyone needs directions, they're posted earlier in this thread.

Another great meet! Berbs42 was MIA but one of his co-workers told me he had worked earlier and was coming back to work a second shift at 7:00pm. Sorry we missed you, maybe next time!

Otherwise, it was the same crowd as last time, except Mookie@TMMTX's dad wasn't with him but Yarrris-Wench's boyfriend--who was at the first meet in March--did join us!

We got to have a small baby shower for Shinlee and his wife, and celebrate Yarrris-Wench's 21st birthday a few days late.

Mookie@TMMTX added some very nice wheels to his ride, and we had a long, in-depth discussion on the handle on the inside of the door hatch. Shinlee managed to break his trying to figure out what it was for...whoops!

All in all it was another fun afternoon, I forgot my camera but luckily Mrs Shinlee brought her's so hopefully they'll get some pics up. They'll look similar to last month's, just minus Berber42's car and lined up in a different order. We had to do something to distinguish the two meets!

I'm just mad (get it?) that it rained this morning. I was going to put the top, doors and windows on the Jeep last night, but figured I had a few more days before the wet weather hit. Instead, I had to drive my freshly-washed Yaris in this crap! :mad:

Not sure if you'll find SA all that exciting as compared to CC; it's more of a family town and I don't think the night life up here is all that great.

Hav you ever considered Austin? It's too liberal for my tastes, but if you want excitement that is where I would be looking...

I have never been to corpus except passing through but I would think SA would be a much better place to live. You got the river walk, a pro basketball team, six flags, some great malls/shopping plazas, sea world, schlitterbahn, all kinds of wine and food festivals. The only thing I know about corpus is Selena's house is there and the Lexington.

well you can always find something to do here and if you find the sources there is always something going on. SAC's radio station KSYM is almost always doing something with /cultural/arts/music events. as for the river walk honestly as a resident of SA i only ever go when my relatives come down because it is a tourist attraction but there is tons to do there. depending on where you find a place to live it will be fairly easy or not to get around. this city suits my needs for the moment after graduation well see. lol
PLUS we are here. and for the last 2/3 meets there was 5 of us: MadMax , Mookie, shinlee (not capitalized lol), Yarrris-Wench, and me. Berbs42 made it to one (not of his own will hahaha) and YotaYaris schedule conflicted with the last two so you already have a group to welcome you.
