anyone preordered? i gotta get one for my girl, hopefully stores that are not doing preorders and selling on launch day i might have a chance at. you guys see the crap people are selling on ebay? $500 just for the fifty bucks preorder deposit (in the form of a receipt)!!!!!!!

I was at Toys R Us with a friend the morning the preorders started, and the toy chain sold out of preorders nationwide in one minute. ONE MINUTE. It makes me want to hop on a soap box and rant about how stupid consoles are, but I'll refrain. People are insane.

He waited in line for 2 hours before the store oppened up and by the time he got to the counter they were sold out. he asked about his preodered and the only excuse they could give him was there must have been others a head of him with fasle pre-orders or pre-orders from other stores.

We talked to a few other people that paid $800 and $900 and had no orders.

He fianlly got his first faulty unit 2 weeks later for 10% off. After his second referbished unit from microsoft he finally got a NEW unit and so far no problems.

I'll wait a year and buy a PS3 when the prices drop.

The difference is that last year they gave out unlimited pre-orders at most stores for the xbox360 - which they didn't have enough to fill. This year, gamestop/eb games have specific store allotments, so pre-orders will be filled. i'm getting my wii on the 19th! i'm gonna go to sears the morning the ps3 comes out to see if they have one to hawk on ebay.

oh and to the post about wiis and ps3s on ebay. the receipts are on there because ebay made strict guidelines this year (Because people were getting scammed with the shortages of 360s). the auctions are for the systems, not just the receipts of the preorder. the receipts are required in the auction as proof the seller is actually getting a system. only 1 system may be sold per seller, and the seller must have 50 positive feedbacks. also ebay stated you could not list either system as buy it now, to avoid artificial price inflations (only true auctions so the demand sets the price).

but really, I have a ton of console's... none of which I play, but the wii seeing how its all motion controlled and what not; will probally mean if I buy one i will use it for about a month before it sits unused next to the rest... oh well I'm an american and if I dont spend my $$ on worthless crap then what else and I suppose to do with it??... then again I should be getting my crappy work bonus about the same time :smoking:

I don't mind waiting this time around.. especially with Sony's ridiculous release pricing........ I'm a little bit worried about the wii though.. just because the graphics aren't going to be there.. and although they do have some exclusive titles... I don't think it's going to be enough.. though the new controller they have is pretty cool... but who wants to deal with all that movement.. i'm just playing games..

oh and regular price for games?? who can afford anywhere from 50-70$ on one game.......

i wouldn't buy games, just like i dont buy movies - that often...thats what gamefly is for (home delivery like netflix, 2 games out at a time for $22 a month unlimited). I'm gonna go to sears the morning the PS3 comes out - because who thinks to go to sears? then i'm gonna sell it for double or more on ebay because they're gonna be short supplied and in demand. then that money will help me buy the new pentax k10d dSLR (key word - help! - unless i clear a grand, which may be possible).

oh and as far as graphics are concerned, i just don't care. i like fun games to play with my wife or by myself. as far as i'm concerned, the better graphics are getting, the deeper they go into the uncanny valley (google it if you don't know what that is).

Interesting but I guess it depends on the games that you play... I primarily play sport sims/racing sims.... and the occasional action/1st person shooter.. for me I love being able to dive into the realism....

In any case... we'll see how those ps3's and wii's go... but for now i'll just wait and see how crazy it will get.

you shouldn't have to wait until after christmas for a wii. they expect to have 4 million units sold by the end of the year. ps3? they expect to sell 1 million, if they have that many to ship. (those are both north american numbers only).

yah, i dont really follow the release dates of the consoles... infact if it wasnt for southpark I woulnt have known it was close to the release date... while talking to a friend he said the ps3 is being release at/near the same time as the Wii, so the demand for the Wii should be has high.

PS3 is being released something like 4 days before the Wii. My boyfriend and I may hang out at a local Walmart to get the Wii. He wants the PS3 but is going to wait till 2007. I may end up just waiting on the Wii as well. More issues with defects for the first bunch that go out.

hahaha, its nice to know there are others here that admire and respect the games that all of todays games are based off of. as soon as games needed you to use your index fingers in ADDITION to your thumbs, i got completely lost. the controls for the current sports and shooter games have become soo complex, and i'm only 26 years old, so it's not like im some old fart that reminisces about the good ol' days of the commodore 64 (many of you will be too young to know what that is...). i just wished companies would bring back some cool side-scrolling 2D games with some good graphics, like metroid, contra, bomberman, metal slug, etc...

She's 11

She had a gamecube for a while until it was pulled off the entertainment center one too many times. Now she only has the ol N64. She was not to fond of the majority of the nintendo games at the time though.

She's more into the teen/adult games and every chance she gets she here using my PS2.

She seems to enjoy the PC, Xbox, PS2 games more like Dance revolution, Guitar hero, Tombraider, Crash Team Racing, Driver, even Ghost Recon's. She's actually pretty good to.

i played excite truck at the local gamestop last night (yes, they have wii demo units now, remember to bring your ID and a credit card so they'll give you a controller!). it was a blast, although not really up my alley. for awhile i kept trying to use the D-pad to turn - it is way simpler than that though! i was a zombie playing it, next sunday can't come soon enough!

ok, i'm at work today, and i probably would've re-hashed this thread yesterday, except my wife and i were having THE BEST CONSOLE GAMING EXPERIENCE EVER ALL DAY LONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

all we have is the included game, Wii sports. played from 12:15am to 4am saturday night, up again by 8 and played it on and off all day. it never gets boring, its like you're bowling, playing baseball, tennis, golf or boxing in your living room. i cant contain my excitement for it, it is such a fun experience. that and making a bunch of Miis is even fun too! ok, back to work.

like, OMG, totally. hahahahhaha, everytime i think of it i'm smiling at work, it is way too much fun. i have super monkeyball and trauma center on their way from gamefly that should arrive today to give me more great joy. Santa better be vigilant because the Wii will be scarce this season, even with 4 million shipping to the US! I'm glad i had a preorder - yeah its lame - i've never looked forward to a console before, but i've had my eye on Wii since the controllers debuted at E3 whenever that was this year (saw the video of it on cnet and fell in love). good thing my wife wasn't working that fateful thursday so she could stand in line for me (she was the only girl, of course she had to make a point of letting everyone there that she was getting it for her husband; now she's picking up the controllers more than i am!) - i dont have any vacation left this year! anyways, gamestop opened at 11pm saturday so everyone could pay for everything and play the Wii there, they gave us cookies and pop, and at midnight everyone left with their bag. smooth and easy, not like getting a PS3 was i'm sure!

You can get a wii and play the gamecube games on it! That's 100% backwards compatibility! You can even use your old GC controllers for those games (and the memory cards).

The wii comes internet ready out of the box and you can play flash games from the net for free! I do it all the time...
