Hey everyone,

just wanted to know how many kilometer should a person normally put into the Yaris before you can start driving it a bit harsher. By harsher I mean driving pass 3000rpm on a manual Yaris. One of my friend saids that I should put in 3000 km before I can start driving harsher. Just wanted to know other peoples input.

Anything over a 1000km should be fine...

I have come across some advice that one should actually drive at a variety of speeds(including occasionally driving at or above 3000 rpm) during the first couple of thousand km. Driving aggressively may, however, be unsuitable. I would at least leave it, as riceboy says, until beyond 1,000 km.
Safe and happy motoring!

There's a whole section on breaking in the car in the owner's manual...I think I'm the only person to read the whole thing though...

why?

LOL. You are prolly one of the only people on the planet to read the owner's manual of a vehicle.

I read through them too, not every single sentence but i like to look through it. You never know, it might tell you something different about the car that you would've not known or something. Plus i like to know the in's and out's of my car.

I've heard the same thing as well. But I will definitely read the owner's manual section as echo_hrs suggested.

I have done it cursorily, paying more attention to those sections that have immediate and/or vital importance. I will make reference to the manual when necessary from time to time.
Inter alia, the manual(page 178 for Canadians) advises to avoid(during the first 1600 km or 1000 miles) full throttle acceleration, racing the engine, and driving for a long time at any single speed, either fast or slow.
There are also advices against hard stops in the first 300 km or 200 miles, driving slowly with the manual transmission in a high gear, and towing a trailer during the first 800 km or 500 miles(Note: cross reference to towing limits necessary even afterwards).
