So I've heard that struts, shocks, and springs are interchangeable between sedan and LB.

I was checking prices on struts today:

Sedan Right
09-10 $46.75 $37.40

Sedan Left
09-10 $46.75 $37.40

Hatchback Right
09-10 $145.17 $116.14

Hatchback Left
09-10 $145.17 $116.14

Sedan Right
07-08 $145.17 $116.14

Sedan Left
07-08 $145.17 $116.14

Why do 09 sedans have cheaper struts than 07-08 sedans and all liftbacks? The prices were the same at my local toyota dealer and trd sparks, so I don't think its an error.

Sometimes Toyota switches to different manufactures to either correct a issue with a current part or simply another manufacture outbid the current one that is willing to make a part that meets toyotas specs for cheaper. Obviously this one is the later.

Usually KYB makes most of toyotas suspention stuff like struts shocks and strut mounts and sway bar links etc....

Only manufacture i know of that would do struts for that cheap is monroe. From my experience they leak and blow out much quicker. But i guess anything to keep production costs down. Its what to expect for a economy car.

^^ that's pretty much what I was thinking. So maybe 09-10 sedans could "upgrade" their suspension just by buying 07 struts??

Sounds like it but for that price you might as well get tokikos

it's only an upgrade if there is something different/better about it, besides price. Without the product to look at, or some specs on it, it's hard to say.

Great find on the pricing though, that is a BIG difference.

I would guess that those price differences are the difference between a front strut (a pretty beefy unit, usually pricier than a plain ol' shock) and a rear shock (which is just a plain ol' shock, and a wimpy one, at that).
