Blackberry tour, favorite app right now is the free privacy star. Blocks unavailable or restricted calls, reverse number lookup, and immediate reporting to the do not call registry if wanted. Because of my biz and even though I'm on the do not call list I was getting several unknown calls a day, now none.

I use a BlackBerry 8330 Curve provided by my office.

Good looks and the promise of good fuel economy was what attracted me to the Yaris. So, as soon as I got my little bayou blue liftback in October 2008 I wanted an easy way to track gas and mileage. At the time, I had not heard of Scangauge II and was looking for an easy system to help me track fuel economy.

Since I usually carry my BlackBerry with me, I thought I would start there. I fired up Google and found just the thing in a little BlackBerry app called MileageMeter from a company called Thinkomatics.de

MileageMeter is nothing fancy but it only costs $4 USD and is easy to use. Every time you fill up, you type in the odometer reading, the amount of gas you put in the tank and the cost of gas. In return, it calculates your fuel economy as well as calculates statistics like average gas mileage, best and worst gas mileage, gas spent per mile, most miles with one tank, average distance driven per day and total amount spent on gas. You can view the information as either a summary page of statistics or as charts to show you trends over time.

I was concerned about backing up my data (in case I lost my BlackBerry) but this app has that covered too. MileageMeter allows you to easily export your data wirelessly from your BlackBerry back to their web-site. Once exported from the BlacKBerry, you can then download the data from their web-site as a .CSV file so that you can play with the numbers in your favourite spreadsheet.
I now make a point of exporting the data as soon as I do any updates so I can always pull down the most recent data from the company's web-site.

Overall, I would say this is a pretty good app for two reasons. One, for its ease of use and two for its back-up/export option in case I lose my BlackBerry or just want to migrate my data to another app somewhere down the road.

^that sounds like a pretty useful app. I have a BB Curve 8350i, and use it quite frequently(to the dislike of my gf). I mostly use it to surf the web or check my email(personal and work), but now hearing about that app, i may have found another use for it.

I've got an 8330 Curve myself. I downloaded Radio Companion and I can listen to radio stations from around the world on my BB. I also use Black Berry Messenger quite a bit and a good amount of people from a local forum have BBs that we created a chat group for BB users from the forum

I'm at the app store right now. There is a free version of "Carbon Fiber" a theme app that makes your BB look like the dash of a sports car ? Says it's free for a limited time in case anyone is interested.

I have an 8820, which is a rare (ish) BB since it has wifi. I use it all the time, and I must say that my favorite app is a game called Bookworm. :biggrin:

Other good apps are Opera Mini, facebook, wordpress, EQO, gizmo5, etc, etc...

As far as the most useful app, I would have to say it's midpssh, bar none. Being able to communicate with my local network from any point on the planet is indeed very cool.

Oh one of my other favorite apps is of course Pandora. Sucks you can't add new artists/songs to existing playlists though.

Got it yesterday. Installed FaceBook app, Slacker (free version) next (Slacker was preloaded) but will try Pandora as well.

Still trying to get used to the BB. So far, I like it (except the browser, no surprise there) Solid device. Woke me up this morning, right on time, still have half a battery left and have been streaming and playing with it for hours.

You can try both opera mini and the brand new firefox mobile (aka "fennec").
They are both way better than BB's built in browser.

You know after a few days, I find that I can deal with the stock browser, no pb. (much better now that I found out where the "zoom in" feature is hidden :biggrin:) it's the screen size that's the problem :laugh:

I downloaded a couple of apps: Weatherbug (for the weather forecast), IHeartradio (tons of radio stations), the AP (to get the news feed), Google Maps (works pretty well, but real small), a dictionary app, a translator app., pretty conservative stuff i guess. Still feeling my way around the device.

Great tool, if only the screen could be just a little bit bigger.

scannerradio is pretty damn cool. Its a basically 2.99$ for the app, u can do a 7 day trial to try it out for free. It basically lets you listen on your local police departments radios, weather stations, and fire stations. So I live in suffolk county, I can listen to whats going on on the suffolk county police department radio. its really really reallly clear surprisingly and i can listen to the LAPD radio if i want as well from NEW YORk on my blackberry with it, i think its suttim like over 2000 stations or some crap. pretty cool though

you know you can backup your BB data, right?


I downloaded the BB manager yesterday from here,

and did a full back-up so if I ever lose my device, at least I'll have the info backed up some place.
