that when using a synthetic that it doesn't like to adhere to the metal dip stick for a proper reading . I keep the dipstick so the dots face towards the engine for a good read . Any of you have that issue ? The synthetic would hold to the yellow dipstick of the '08 YARIS H.B. much better for a reading level . Wonder if I could get one from parts department to replace the metal one . Would the yellow plastic dipstick work with the YARIS sedan as well ? :iono:

Engine's the same. Unless they've changed the length of the dipstick tube for some reason it would. Can't imagine why they'd do that.

So is he saying a metal dipstick would work better or worse? Cause I thought the yaris came with a yellow plastic one?, at least my sedan did, and I use synthetic and it doesnt seem to have a problem sticking to it.

think I'll STICK with the synthetic :wink: . Yes , the syn fill is easier to read with the plastic dipstick . That was the case with the '08 L.B.. The '08 sedan and 2010 3 door came with a metal dipstick . The 1st generation XB came with the yellow dipstick too .

My '08 LB came w/ a metal dipstick and does not give a very clear reading.

Yes, not equal, and messy. Engine has to be cold and sitting for a while before I can get a non-messed good reading.

agreed with the messy reading. Really have never had this problem on any of my other current or past cars but this car, it's kind of frustrating trying to read the oil. Even moreso when clean (just changed). My neighbor has the same problem with his '08

yup , usually check it following morning . Is a nuisance having to recheck it 2 > 3 times to be sure of oil level . .

Scuff up the bottom of the metal dipstick with a small file to make the oil stick to it a little better and make it easier to read.

My dipstick has a yellow plastic top with a lenght of metal to measure the level. It's not all plastic.
Also, it's awful trying to read the level. I too let it sit overnight , then I can see where it is.:iono:

since stopping the use of SHELL 5w-30 synthetic to SHELL conventional 5w-30 the oil adheres to both metal dipsticks for a better reading .
