there are some really nice vans out there:smile:

why?

how old are the kids? 3 can fit in the back if they are small enough, but odds are at some point you need something bigger.

I'd suggest a station wagon over any minivan or suv. There are some really fun ones out there.

he's going to need a 3rd row

vans are simply the best for 2 adults, 2 kids, and a baby. in my family currently there are 2 adults, a baby and a senior. we're wanting another baby, but if we do, we're pretty much going to have to get a van. all the non-vans w/ a 3rd row just suck for anyone sitting in the back.

Inasmuch as people on here will likely flinch at this recommendation, go look at the Honda Odyssey! We have a 2005 EX with the 255 HP 3.5L V-6 and it flies! Plus, leather seats, DVD player for the kids, and a smooth ride; you can beat it as an urban hauler. The back seat folds down easily, and the middle seats are not that hard to remove. Honestly, I could probably fit my Yaris hatch in there if I had to! Seriously, it is really versatile, and considering you'll be humping around a stroller and all the other baby gear, you need a vehicle with flexibility! I had a mid-sized wagon (a 1996 VW Passat) that I traded in for my Yaris, it was great but it didn't come close to the van in utility.

You'll get ~20 MPG city and ~25 highway, not bad considering the size and weight. It does have an "Eco" mode where half the cylinders shut down at certain cruising speeds, it helps save gas.

Find one that is a few years old with low miles and you'll have a great deal, hopefully enough to where you can keep your Yaris as well.

About the only downside is that there are millions of them out there...I've accidentally walked up to the wrong one at a Walmart parking lot (wondering why my remote wasn't working!).

Cheers! M2

Does your wife have a car? Keep the Yaris for the commute and get the later model van for the kid hauler.

i drove an xb2 last month....wasnt bad....but nowhere near as much room as a van would have...so if you don't mind upgrading again in like 3months, go for it, lol

Irregardless of what your next vehicle is, try harder to convince your wife to ditch her Mustang seeing as how the gas budget (and insurance and maintenance) for that car would be higher than your Yaris. Plus a Mustang doesn't have four doors, so the Yaris comes in handy when having to give a kid or two a ride to anywhere at the last minute.

Vasectomy.

Yep, you sure said that just in the nick of time

We don't really Drive the Mustang that much. Its our Weekend car it's mostly parked in the drive way. Insurance and maintenance is not much at all since we don't drive it. We bought the car in 2008 with like 50.000 miles on it now it has 53.000 shows how much we drive it lol.

That's a reasonable, logical and compelling argument...so it will be useless against a woman! :eyebulge:

Honestly, that sound more like a reason to get rid of it! Most likely you are paying a lot more insurance on it versus your Yaris, even if you don't drive it much; and we all know it costs more to operate. Appeal to your wife's maternal instincts, tell her the kids will never be safe in that car and that a minivan makes more sense.

Good luck...you'll need it!

Cheers! M2

The Kids don't ride in that car at all they don't fit, its only for me and her Insurance is only $60.00 on it.

Here is my car before the yaris. 1996 Roadmaster wagon...
Fit a lot of kids, could carry 4' x 8' sheets of plywood and drywall, and had close to 300hp. I also got 20mpg with it, which is the same I get with my crappy Mercury Villager.

In my experience, you'll quickly outgrow something the size of the Mazda 5. There does not appear to be that much room behind the second row of seats, and once you put a stroller in there you won't have much space for anything else. With the third row of seats and there must be absolutely little to no space behind them.

Honestly, I think you'll have to look at minivans to satisfy your requirements. Sure, there is a "stigma" of driving one but once you've owned one you will find that the cargo capacity and hauling abilities will make you quickly realize why they are so popular. My kids are older (12 and 9) and we are constantly hauling them, their friends and their gear all over the place. Our Odyssey seems like it was perfectly designed for doing just that. With the third row seats folding into the rear compartment, it is easy to expand the hauling capability. Need more room? Then remove the second row of seats (not too hard to do) and you could almost put a piano back there! Need to scoot your kid and five of his friends to the skatepark? With all the seats in, it's a piece of cake!

Again, don't buy new, look for a 2-3 year old Odyssey or something and you'll find the best deal.

i will say having a $40,000 AWD supercharged minivan is pretty sweet. Especially since you can get the TRD supercharcharger on the Sienna. I drove an AWD Plymouth for a while. great sound system, fun with awd, but man, the gas mileage stunk.
