Why don't you just take it to AT&T and turn it in instead of keeping it? :iono: Kind of like keeping someones wallet when it has an id in it but since they did not come and claim it does not mean its okay to keep it.

i thought of giving it back to the provider and my friend works there he said that mostlike the person that will take it will mostlikely keep it so might as well keep it and its not at&t by the way...anyways the wifes iphone gone missing a year ago maybe this is it coming back..unfortunetely no hack for password on ver 3.2.1.

I understand your trepidation but this is a test of your character, and you are failing. One does not base a good and correct deed on whether someone else will undo it. That is the undoer's issue and burden - not yours.
Always try to do the right thing and let the chips fall where they may.

:respekt::respekt:   Thank you!!
You know they can track these devices.
I know here in the States (may not work on all phones but some) if you declare your phone stolen, they can make them impossible to use. I'm not sure exactly how that works though. Some guy explained that to me when I was selling my old cell phones at a garage sale because people were asking me if I had reported them stolen already. :iono:

^ If it's a CDMA phone, they'll mark the ESN as stolen and the phone will be unable to be activated. (Usually people will then go to Cricket/Metro PCS and have them flash it to their network because neither one will do a check with the originating carrier if it's stolen.)
If it's a GSM phone they do the same with the IMEI, but really that's worthless because you can still pop your SIM card into a GSM phone that has had it's IMEI marked as stolen and the phone will still register on the network and operate normally.

Finding something that the owner can be identified and keeping it anyway is stealing.

come on, face it, it *was* tempting and the OP is doing the right thing now, so no need to wish any harm on anyone. Life is hard enough already, let's just all take a deep breath and chill

True, but being in possestion of property that is not yours e.g. being in possestion of stolen goods is a crime and has one meaning.

wow this thread is getting out of hand...not my fault if the service provider dont call be back..they cant figure it out either..without getting into the phone they wont know. phone didnt come from them anyways seems like its an unlock phone..life too short guys..i lose things i find things just deal with it. im not poor like i said i can afford to get one but if no one claims it then what am i suppose to do..
marcus was right stolen things vs finding it and have no one claim it is not the same...who ever thinks thats the same just have to go back to school maybe back to grade one..

Look on the bright side, there may be a reward once you find the owner or even better, the owner might be a very grateful hot chick!
But returning it would be the better thing to do!
Cheers! M2

It's not just the device, it's also the data that's inside that may be a problem. This guys whole address book might be in there, or who knows what else, maybe his deceased grandma's pictures or his girlfriend's first "I wuv you" SMS or whatever. Stuff of no value to anyone but to him. :iono:
I had my wallet stolen before and it wasn't the hassle of having to redo the drivers license, cancel all the cards, and all that stuff that got to me, but the fact that I'll never get the pictures I had in there back. Some were priceless to me (that's why they were in my wallet ;)

I completely agree that if you find something, make an attempt to find the owner and nothing comes of it - it's yours.
I'd try to post an ad on Craigslist and see if anyone comes forward about it, I agree about the pictures and stuff - I have pictures of my grandfather who died a couple months ago on my phone from dinners and stuff we went to - and while I have a backup of them online, if that was the only place I had those pictures and I lost my phone I would be a wreck.

If you know anyone who has an iphone or a Ipod touch you can borrow a usb cord for either one of those and plug it in to your computer and you may be able to get the phone number that way through Itunes. :iono:
The only thing you can do with that thing right now is push the home button 2 times fast and listen to there music. LOL
Good luck and you are doing the right thing by trying to find the owner. They probably shelled out 300 dollars or better for the phone and like other posters said they probably have photo's on there, contact information, important phone numbers. It has the potential to suck as bad as losing your wallet. Whoever lost it obviously does not know where they lost it, they probably visited lots of bars and don't know what happened to it.

the quality of new members has seriously took a dive...
the dude found it, told the place he found it and if anybody is missing it to call him so he can give it back to them
he waited over a week and no calls, its not like he pocked the phone and was all sneaky about it
