Online word processing

I've been looking at Adobe PDF, Google Docs and Open Office. I got a Mac Mini recently and still have my PC. I used Open Office and Words on the PC, but have not used the Mac for word processing. I have access to PCs at work and would like the most compatible word processing software. Does anyone have experience, or a recommendation?

I plan to do word processing at home, work and mobile.

I have access to PCs at work and would like the most compatible word processing software.
Nothing beats OpenOffice for both compatibility and interoperability. After all, MS Word only works with... well... MS Word files... well... MS Word files that aren't too many versions behind or ahead.

But, of course, OpenOffice isn't an online system. I've yet to find a need or desire for an online office system, though, and I don't trust either of the companies offering that service right now (Google and M$).
