From where? Are they significantly louder than stock?

I bought them from www.summitracing.com and they are a lot louder than stock... I might be able to get a sound clip this weekend

Thanks for the picture. I'm deciding between either the Hella's or a pair of horns that sound like a louder, domestic car horn (cheaper than the Hella's, too). If anyone is curious, Griot's Garage sells a variety of aftermarket horns; they're not the cheapest source, but their service is top-notch:

Did you have any trouble removing/replacing the bumper cover? Can you elaborate on how you attached the horns to the car - did you drill/tap the body?

I've had the Hella's on another car and I can vouch for their quality. The Hella horns have the same tone as the OEM horns - only "turned up to eleven" as they say. Great horns!

Yeah, I wanna hear them as well! I want to replace my stock horn (I hate how it "bleeps" like a sick sheep); but I don't want to go with air horns. These might be worth the bucks...

I did a DIY for Toyota Premium 400Hz and 500Hz horn kit from Japan. These are much louder than stock and have a distinct sound closer to a larger automobile. The best part is, its all plug and play, with NO splicing of wiring or any other electrical hardware. See the following link...

I used one hole that was already on the car and the other I had to drill to make them look even. No problems with getting the bumper back on. These horns are 300Hz and 500Hz. So definatly louder than our stock Road Runner "Beep Beep" horns

Thanks for the replies, guys. Although the bumper looks a like a pain to remove/replace, I'm gonna take it all the way off so I have plenty of room to work. Since the Hella's are a "known commodity" to me, I'm just going to get these again.

I'll try to add to the horn install DIY info pile (w/pics) based on my experience. Thanks again for the info!

Yea I completely took off my bumper to install these... Not enought room otherwise...

I changed my mind. Since I don't want to cut my car's wiring harness, I went and bought the Toyota Premium Horn kit that Marty mentioned. The plug-and-play aspect of the Toyota horns (with the optional wiring harness) was really appealing to me.

Since I've had the Hella's before, I'll be sure to pass along my impressions of the Premium Horns once I get 'em installed. I'm interested in both the construction of the horns and their sound. I assume the Premium Horns belt out the same amount of noise as the Hella's; I'll be sure to pass the info along.

I didn't cut any of my OE wires I only added some new ones...

Thanks for the additional info.

I haven't really taken a look at the stock horn. Does this mean that there's a little "pigtail" from the horn that goes into the car's wiring harness? If the crappy stock horn has its own wires that I can cut (with a coupler that goes into the car's harness), that would be great. I have no problem with trashing the stock horn since it can be easily replaced, if needed.

On my last (non-Yaris) car, I actually dissected the stock horn in order to get the female plug so I didn't have to cut the car's wiring.

There is only one wire going to the stock horn it is a positive with and it is the female side of the connector. So I just slid that on to the signal side of the relay that came with the Hella kit... Then just ran all the wres for the rest of it.

if its like my matrix, you ground both horns to the frame and splice into the stock power to run a second power to the second horn. on my matrix the oem plug fit nicely on the hella horns on the back...

i repainted them to but them on my xrs and then on my aveo....might get around to RE-RE-RE-PAINTING them to put on the yaris this year...back to red

I played it safe and ran them though the relay and yes grouned both horns to the frame.

I rather not use my horn, I try not to, and if I have to... I try do do it very gentle; I guess it's because I'm embarrassed of it. I'm going to take the front bumper off soon my grill got loose in one end so I need to repair it, this could be good timing for Hella Twin Supertones!!!

Thank you,
D.

Glad you've updated your car horn. But for the record, Hella Supertones are 118dB and Trombe Stebel Nautalis is 139dB, I have the Trombe Stebel and love them. Check out my DIY thread, pictures and video here http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9423

Toyota Premium Horn is nice and loud. Can beep friends inside their house to come out, scare squirrels and small animals, and last but not least, warn 18-wheelers I am passing that I am there. I couldn't do any of those things before. This horn blares really loud!

I just ordered my Hellas Twin Supertone... I believe anything will sound better than stock, so these are OK for me, I also like the look behind the grill.

I also like the look behind the grill.

That is actually one of the main reasons I picked these. It's a plus they are loud... Haha j/k.... kind of...

One of the excuses I use to justify getting a horn when my vehical came with one is that it is a safety item and being a new dad I want people to know that my little car is there...

I heard these on You Tube. Very Euro but louder than Yaris.
I'm interested in more of that 80's Cadillac blast. Like a locomotive, not a Fiat.

derickveliz2
03-03-2011, 10:18 PM
I know what you mean with "like a locomotive" that would be cool.

I had 2 Fiats in the past and there is a big difference, my Twin Hellas sound more like a big fancy car, BMW sort of speak;
and I've seen people jump from their seat when I hit them, I kind of feel bad, but they did some thing wrong and deserve it.

What is the current draw? Did you need to increase the amperage on the fuse? I put a set of Stebel Magnum motorcycle horns on mine with a relay since they will draw 12 Amps 137 db! Car sounds like an old Buick!
