upgraded rear springs to Skunk2 Fit springs and raised rear rates up from tanabe 2.2 to a beastly 6.2! then added some PG 13mm spacers and some EZ shims from MI. wheels are 15x6.5 +38

keeping the angle consistent with the pics would be a more 'honest' way to demonstrate the change, but the spacers look dope. nice

well..i "honestly" tried to get the exact same angle with the before and afters guy excuse me for being a little off....but the fronts are tanabe dfs and no i didnt have to modify the skunks to make them fit. unfortunatley they did create some unsightly wheel gap so i went against all things holy and trimmed them lol

supposedly it is not safe... heating up the coil to cut it makes the metal brittle, and the shorter length, messes it up if it's progressive rate springs. Just what I read somewhere, but it makes sense.

I have cut springs before they don't heat up that much depending on what you cut them with. I use an airpowered cut off wheel and it only heats up a tiny bit.

i used a 4 inch grinder for lack of a better means and i took about a half coil. kngrsll you were my inspiration! i was wondering if you had to trim also. lol glad to see im not the only one doing something so taboo

okay here are some side pics. the gap isnt as bad as i thought only a half inch, but it still looks like a 4x4 compared to what im used to looking at lol. keep in mind im running 195/50s and the springs havent settled yet, though i doubt the settle much being so stiff. the side by side of the springs doesn't really show how short they are either. they are easily an inch or more shorter.

funny how the skunks look shorter, but the tanabes are a lower drop. I guess the Tanabes must be a lot softer...

Well, the skunk2's still need to settle... I'm guessing they'll drop a bit more in the coming weeks.

the tanabe spring is 125 lbs, the fit spring is 300 lbs. thats 2.5 times as much! that is a huge difference.

and cutting it is not going to harm a thing, that is a crazy myth perpetuated by spring companies to make money. now, applying heat to compress coils, that may be dangerous.

great job! any plans on what to do next? i ended up using generic coilover perches on the front with 375 lb springs and putting the rear sway bar back on. although i have not tracked it yet with this set up, i can tell you, it will be good!

well correct me if im wrong but i thought for fwd cars in order to reduce understeer one would use stiffer springs in the rear and softer in the front...thats why i didnt go ahead and beast up the fronts...but if i am incorrect then perhaps something similar to your setup will be in my future

i have battled with that thought...

some schools of thought think stiff rear on FWD is better, some think not. when i tracked the yaris the first time, it was on tanabes and had the 23 mm rear bar. the car was great, balance perfect, and a blast to drive. i put the stiff springs on the rear, i never got to track it, only autox. and i wasnt real sure i liked it. so i did the suspension like i have it now, and i think its better. next time i go, i plan on swapping parts on different days and trying it out.

No offense intended by the wording of my post...hence the quotes. I have been thinking about spacers in the rear but Im skeptical about how much difference it makes in appearance and performance so im just looking for an accurate perspective on the former.

yea i was in ur shoes about a week ago. i battled for a loooong time on whether to get them or not too being 80 bucks only spacing 13mm but i had the cash and i thot wth. but i can say that i like my car 2x as much now. they just make it look smooth and clean. now when i see a car with inset wheels i think "ew, they really need some spacers." so i say go for it
