View Full Version : What should my next mod be?

As it sits, when I get my taxes back, I should have a few hundred to spend on mods, and I am trying to figure out what to get. I have not really done much cosmetically to her, as I would rather have a plain car that performs well, then a pretender that looks great, but has no performance (all show, no go). I have reached a point, I think, where the bang for the buck quotient has leveled off, and cosmetic mods might be something I seriously look into.

So far I have:

Performance:
Tanabe DF210 lowering springs
NST under-drive crank pulley
NST engine bay short shift kit
Ultra Racing 19mm rear anti-sway bar

Cosmetic:
Debadged
35% tint sides and back
Decepticon decal
Cheap faux carbon fiber shift knob
Cheap chrome exhaust tip (wal-mart special)
Stubby antenna

I'm not sure where to go next on this. I really want to get new wheels/tires, but I refuse to get any thing heavier then stock, and really would prefer to get something lighter. As such, wheels/tires would be around $1600 - $2000 for the wheels I want(Enkei RPF1s with Yokohama S.Drive or Parada Spec-2 tires).

Basically I cannot afford wheels/tires or coil-overs at this time, and I don't know if exhaust/CAI mods are worth the money, especially if I go custom in the future with FI. I also would not mind a new stereo system, but that might be too expensive too. I'm going to start a poll to see what you guys think I should get...

I really want better tires then stock, tho... the plan is what ever alloy wheels i get will be summer wheels and the stock wheels will be my winter wheels (with all weather or snow tires installed once the oem tires need replaced)

Voted bolt on axle back exhaust. As it is with my ride, the Wally World tip has done it's job but soon needs to go.

If it's something you want to be able to "use" everyday, then upgrade your ICE. If you search around, you'll find some great prices on speakers, amps, and subs.

If you can save up some cash then I definately say rims!!!
New rims will give your car a great look!

Actually I'm in the middle of trying to setup a ghetto-fabulous stereo... My old aftermarket HU+some inherited 10" dual coil sub & amp+whatever cheap box/wiring I can find... Trying to figure out where I can get a box and wiring for like $40 or so...

Get some upgraded shocks to finish your suspension package. Then worry about your wish list.

my vote would be the aftermarket axle-back exhaust. you've already got the money for it(or will when you get your return), it adds to the appearance/sound of your car, and you can install it in 5 minutes(instant gratification). plus, there would be a little money left over to finish that stereo system you're talking about! tires/rims would be nice, but don't settle for something you don't ultimately want. upgraded shocks are a nice thought, but then you have to take the car apart again. saving the money for something down the road is the smartest thing, but i find there's always something that comes up for me to spend the money on anyways.

Do you have 6 months of living expenses and bill payments saved in your bank account? If not that should be your top priority.

Hmm well It depends. To be honest, I do not know how much money I will get back, I haven't filed yet (I know, I know, I should hurry up ) I am aiming for $200-$300 for whatever, and saving up if the mod costs more...

The real question is: "What quality of life am I willing to put up with for 6 months, in an emergency?"

Yes, OP, obey your mother.
lol

From the organization of my life (or rather, lack thereof) I would say free spirit... :headbang:

1. Save a bit more money (if in fact you only have $300)
2. Get less expensive wheels
3. Get eyelids and an RBK spoiler at the same time.

but seriously you should save your 3-6 months of bills as you live now.... you should always have at least 1k in saving at all times if your not into the 3-6 month rule.... if you have ANY debt you need to stop what your doing and go check this guy out. www.daveramsey.com He changed my habits and my whole life now since im outta debt now and forever more... Just bought my Yarii straight cash and boy does it drive so much smoother than any car i could finance. (and yes having a car payment is debt so if your making payments then get it paid first then do your thing.

Interesting ideas... but where can I get #2 for $750? The wheels I want are like $1000 with tires, and air pressure sensors (it says the stock ones wont fit, and I want to keep those any ways for the winter)
