Can I use stock tires?

Hey guys, I just purchased a set of Enkei FD-05s from DiscountDirectTire or whatever. I didn't realize until just now that the wheel width is 7" as opposed to the stock steel width of 5.5" on my sedan. Is this going to be a problem? I checked the sticky and only understood about half of it... I really don't want to have to drop money on new tires.

UPDATE: I ended up ordering 195/60/15 tires.

Two questions. How much of a safety issue would stretching have been, and these tires WILL fit my wheels, right?

great choice on wheels - i just bought the same thing :smile: anyways, i was asking myself the exact same question the other day once i looked at the wheels and thought 'yikes - this looks WIDE! i wonder if the factory 185/60/15 will even fit?'. the guy at discounttiredirect said they would with no problems, but i don't want them to look 'stretched' or anything. i might just keep the oem tires on the steelies and use them for winter - i'm just waiting for discounttiredirect to have some kind of special on tires! please post pics once you get them installed as i have both a yaris sedan and liftback and i'm curious to see what they'll look like on a sedan(i'll post pics on a liftback once i install themhttp://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac71/magnum_p_i/Mobile%20Uploads/1266946924.jpg). here's what they look like in case anybody is curious:

You can fit the oem tires, but toad has the better idea: pick up some better tires in the right size adn save the others for spares or sell the package.

Right now you can pick up a set of Falken Azenis 615's for crazy cheap, and I think there might even be a rebate on them, since the new 615K's are about to be released.

Thanks for the responses guys. I got the 15"s because I really don't have the cash atm to get tires since I got df210s as well. Otherwise, I would have chosen the 17". Anyways, am I correct in assuming there's gonna be an approximate .75" gap on each side of the tire? Cause I can definitely live with that for now. :wink:

You'll be totally fine with your stock tires.

thanks! the only 'catch' i can see is that they seem very HEAVY - at least for a 15" wheel. they don't advertise weights on their site and i couldn't even find anything on enkei's site for the 15" size, but the price and quality of the enkei name is what sold me(plus, i think they look nice and not everyone has them:thumbsup:). i've got df210s also and i'm hoping the +38 offset will be ok for a 15x7 with either 205/50/15 or 195/55/15 tires(if i can afford them, otherwise i'll be swapping the stock tires on). don't forget to post-up some pics once they're installed.

yeah, i saw they have an $80 rebate thru 4/30 on the 615s. i've heard, however, that they run REALLY wide and i might have issues with the drop and offset i've got. i've not really thought about autocrossing, but with that tire i might be tempted:evil: anyways, is that a decent tire for daily driving(considering i keep my oem tires for winter-use)?

So I went to lube express at wal-mart today and although the guy was hesitant at first, he attempted to get the tires on. It worked, but he immediately expressed his concern for the safety aspect as it required a pretty good stretch and was barely sitting on the wheel properly. I ended up deciding against it and just ordered 195/60/15 tires.

Two questions. How much of a safety issue would it have been, and these tires WILL fit my wheels, right?

EDIT: Wow, I'm an idiot. If the first number (195/60/15) refers to width in millimeters, then why am I having issues with the stock 185/60/15?? I'm getting so much conflicting information, I need heeeellpppp lol.

The 195s are only a bit wider than the 185s, so any issues with the 185 are only a bit alleviated with the 195. I've seen dealer-fitted 185s on 6,5'' rims, but I guess 7'' is a bit much for 185. Just to be on the safe side, I'd gone for 205/55, but these are also more expensive than 60-series tires.

205/55/15's will fit nicely on the rims... and work very well on the Yaris.
