I'm curious too, but not to the point of preordering anything.

I saw these people stand online (after spending the night on the sidewalk) outside the Apple store to make sure they'd get the first iPhones out of the store, tsk, tsk, tsk ... I DNK about that.

Actually, even Steve Wozniak stood on line, but IMO that had to be a PR thing...

I'm sure I'll see them around soon enough in the hands of commuter around me

Don't let this be your first Apple purchase.

That's coming from an Apple fan.

why not? :iono:

It's like a big iPod touch you can see a little better and play with for endless hours. what's the problem?

I know, I know, some of you hardcore geeks out there  you know who you are  are gonna say there are better devices out there, even a notebook is better, OK I know that, but if someone wants to buy himself / herself a new toy with the apple logo on it, what's wrong with that? free country  :iono:

Well he can if he wants to, you're right.

I'm just suggesting that he should reconsider. Or he can just deal with the Apple retail employees when trying to return it after he gets bored with it.

Apple makes such better products that are actually worth the price, this however really doesn't.

ahem... all that being said, Garm, you might think about the fact that the device doesn't multitask. That can be a problem if you want to stream music while reading an ebook, or do anything while doing something else...

For example, I usually do 2 or 3 things simultaneously at the very minimum at the computer (for instance right now, I'm getting emails pushed in while streaming an online radio, while posting on this board), and I got some other stuff running in the background. I can't imagine not being able to play my iTune library while reading an ebook or surfing the net in a coffee shop. That is IMO a strong weakness for the device.

Oh, it looks like we posted at the same time. when you put it that way, I think I have to agree with you.

Dealing with the Apple "geniuses" :barf: no thank you

The iPad looks like an interesting product. I won't be getting it nor do i know anyone who will be. Every one of my friends(who own apple products) just say its a bigger iphone or iPod Touch. I agree with you when you say don't buy launch products, and I mean for any product myself. I don't see a place for this device anywhere in my life, especially since my phone is my mp3 and my laptop covers the rest, including an eReader, which would have to agree hurts after a while and I like the kindles screen a 1000 times more for that purpose. I do agree with anyone that says apple producs can be innovative, but for there price there just way more then I ever would need.

The non-multitasking to me is the only downside to this device.

And yeah, if I want to play with one and have the money for it, isn't that good for YOU guys? You get to see if I like it or not.

I love being one of the first to try new technology. Are the same people posting in here going to say I shouldn't try new (and sometimes far more expensive than an iPad) things to push the technology limits on the Yaris?

I don't lose sleep over this. I get to have my fun, my way... right?

Garm, I was wrong in my previous post: you CAN listen to your iTune library while doing something else on the iPad.

I was in the neighborhood so I thought I' d drop in and say hello to my buddies at Apple ;) and yeah, they confirmed iTunes works. The problem is trying to multitask with third party apps.

Don't take my word for it, though. Always good to double and triple check these things

I did notice one thing though, in case any of you are thinking about pre-ordering.

The iPad that's coming out early April will NOT ship with WI-FI. If I were you I would wait for the one that ships with WI-FI late April.

and for those of you who are considering other options

I gotta tell you, I was playing with an iPod touch and these things are really cool. sigh.

Still I'm not getting any device until I decide which way I'm gonna go when I replace my cell phone (android, BB, or .... )

I have had a touch for a while and just got the phone this weekend. Now that I have the phone the touch is kinda useless but either way, they are both a lot of fun.

i def get one later, not now since there will be bugs, battery problem...etc. It's even more awesome if you can hack it like itouch or iphone.
This will not replace a netbook or laptop, but it's good for what it is.

Garm,
Just so you know, Scripts is not compatible with Words. If you do word processing, it won't convert easily. Other than that, Apple is great at anything entertaining.

OK, you're right, according to that website

Wait a minute, I was at the Apple store last week, and THEY GAVE ME the flyer that says "no wi-fi" on pre-order models. I'm not making it up!! I remember discussing it with some guy in the store and we were both scratching our heads about that.

ugh :bonk:

Oh, I don't think I"ll get it. I've got my eyes on smartphones lately

So many gadgets ... so little money. Can't have them all

Yeah, they were giving out print-outs and signing people up, so I DNK. Maybe a misprint but you think they would have caught it?

tomato
03-24-2010, 12:43 AM
OK. I know I'm a dork, but come on, I wasn't dreaming 2 weeks ago when I went to the apple store, and it really disturbs me when I give people erroneous info (like I did on this thread with the WIFI thing) so I went back to the Apple store on my way home today and asked if they still had the print-outs they were giving out before.

The guy I spoke to, today, said "oh, yeah, there was some confusion about that a couple of weeks ago, but what's on the website is correct"

Then he asked me if I wanted to pre-order and when I said not really he really lost interest in the conversation ;)

Anyway, they ARE shipping out with WIFI, but not with 3G. 3G will come later on in April and there is a difference in price for adding 3G to the device.

why?
03-24-2010, 12:59 AM
apple can be so clueless it is amazing. They introduce this new product, yet do everything they can possibly think of to make it a pos.

The only reason i have an ipod is because i have the jack so i can control it through my car stereo.

we complain about the car companies doing stupid crap with products, they can't hold a candle to what apple does.

I tried Google Docs on my Mac Mini since words wasn't working with Scripts. Tried Open Office, but it would only run Scripts.

I like this Ipad thing. You can't really compare it to a netbook, or the like. Yes, we know you can't multi task with anything apple, but thats what makes it run so smoothly.

Android phones are all open sourced. Its fun for the end user, but it sucks when there are 019230915098130298120391850973984723 programs on the android market that do the same thing. Not to mention the intellectual property theft that goes on. And the risk for virus and the like.

Its gonna be a trade off folks.

I for one, like the ipad. I liked my ipod touch, and always said, "Man, they gotta make this thing huger." Then they did.
