Any non-Dynamat sound dampening?

Has anyone tried any non-dynamat sound dampening products; as in non-automotive stuff.

i haven't my friends have but it is meant for larger spaces rather than a hatchback so i guess the automotive stuff works better

you can get a roofing product called "peal-n-seal" it is basically the same stuff as the cheaper dynomat type products, except even cheaper :)

i have never used it, and personally would never think of puting it in my car, but many many people have, and they usually call it a great cost saving success...

I had rooled roofing material called peel-n'-seal in my truck.

Works perfect but has a stronger odor then dynomat that seems to last a bit longer. But after a couple weeks it was gone.
I only got a slight hint of odor on the hottest days.

Prep/clean all the surface that you want to cover and use a heat gun to conforn it to the contours of the area.

Works fine and is a fraction of the cost of dynomat

I haven't tried it yet myself, but I've heard that the closed cell foam(looks like a black rubber type material) that you can get from places like Home Depot or Rona works. I've also heard, again no experiance, that you can use the soundproofing insulation that is usually used in the inner walls and ceiling/floor of a house. It's fire rated and it's a sound dampening material. It's yellow instead of the usual pink insulation. I'm not sure if anyone else out there has tried this. Also using an open cell foam, using spray glue to fix it, on the pannels will help with any rattles or squeeks. This one I can vouch for from one of my other cars. I haven't had a chance to use it in this car yet. Try searching some of the other automotive forums and you may find something.

The pro version of that stuff is absolutly incredible, I've done my front doors and trunk completly and its amazing. I can have my JL10w6v2 sub up as high as it goes and if you step outside you can not hear it at all. Just the wind trying to escape

I was looking for this. I've heard wonders about it. It works as good or better(much better from what I've heard) compaired to Dynamat.

Isuggest a combo of closed cell foam and peel n seal for the most effective solution for the $.

i've used profoam sound deadening sheet, which is less expensive and works well. i bought it at a local automotive store.
