unplugging vvti

my Yaris is running bad still. It might be the cam timing gear telling the ecu to up the idle ..
its racing and generally rough.
Do you think the 1.5 would run without the cam vvti..??? I dont know if that might help..
I was thinking of unplugging it...

Your symptoms sound like a vacuum leak..

You'll get a CEL if you unplug the VVT-i actuator. As the cam will then remain in its fully retarded position all the time, it won't run the best either.

I got the P0011 which is consistent with the Service bulletins on the 07 1.5L
It tells the mechaanic to check the vvti first and if it works replace the cam timing gear which is a handy 450 bucks. Good for the sleazy dealer.
I pulled the vvti and put 12v to it and it works but it could be sticking on the return.Its hard to know. It might be the cam gear but the racing rpm would have to be a side effect at least.
If the vvti pin sticks on the return the ecu might pump the gas because it thinks you are
cruising above 4000 rpm on the hiway. The only time the vvti would extend anyway.
I unplugged the vvti and will run for awhile. Yes I got P0016 code but I dont care. It should still work. The old compacts didnt have a vvti anyway.
I am getting sick of this buggy. I want out but I dont want to buy now. I wish I could put a brand new corolla engine in it from a few years ago. They were good. And very few people
outside of California know these things. In the North they have hardly seen these.

I got rid of the racing rpm by unplugging the vvti, but the idle is a bit high still ..
but its idling smoother and running ok . Big improvement from before.

Is the cam profile without the vvti engaged like that of cars without vvti (at all)?

it sounds like you need to find the REAL source of your problems, unplugging stuff doesn't fix anything.

Even if it did work the poor fuel economy that would result but disabaling the VVTI would more than offset the cost of just fixing it over time.

disabling VVTI will mostly just kill acceleration and torque. it won't wind up as fast

VVT-i is disabled when the "COOL!" light on your dash is on. It'll run like that. (With the transmission upshifting normally, presumably.)
