Even though I always complain about the Yaris' lack of rear cargo area, I went and got a nice 10" sub. The problem is that it's pumping out a decent amount of bass. . . so much that there is a very noticeable vibration/resonance/rattle coming from the rear in tune with low-mid to mid bass and not low low bass.
Is it just the plastic cover on the hatch or is it something in the plastic sides that is rattling? Any of you guys find out? I'd rather attack the source than to apply sound deadener to the entire rear end.

Play your system loud, and go back there and FIND the rattle.
Did you check your license plate? People tend to overlook that.
When I put my subwoofer in my Yaris hatch, I had no rattles.
Lucky me I guess.

I'd rather attack the source than to apply sound deadener to the entire rear end.
Usually what happens is you quiet down one rattle, and you find another. You may want to try to face the sub a different direction, if you have it facing forward, face it back, or up, you have many different options to play with.

Well it's definitely not the plate. . . the thai license plate is anchored down in such a way that it's not even moving at all. In CA, I was used to attacking the plate first. I dunno, it's none of the plastic trim on the surface of the interior, so I guess I just have to tear it apart.
I know I can "FIND" the rattle. But rather than tear the car apart, I was hoping to see if there were any common points I should check first.

I am having the same issue and I notice that when I get out of the car and push on the hatch it goes away. Maybe we need to find a way to get the hatch to latch tighter? Also if I push on the plastics inside the hatch, nothig happens. I think it's gotta be the door itself. Let us know what you find out.

Yeah I fixed it. Not being a fan of dynamat and expensive/heavy deadeners, I cut up some old t-shirts and stuffed the back hatch. Problem solved.

I put a queen size foam mattress in my doors, in addition to the expensive deadener.
