I bought and am awaiting shipment of a bomz(fake aem) intake. But I am looking to modify it.
The intake is 2.25" all the way through....My idea is to cut the intake right after the bracket that holds it to the car and open it up to 3" to install this...

From going to 3" to 2.25" what are the negatives and positives in doing this reduction on the intake. I know the reduction will increase the preasure throught the intake. Is that good or bad?

First link not working.
Negative - your wallet will be $100 lighter.
Positive - none. By introducing a reduction in diameter in the intake system, you potentially will be creating turbulence. Not a good thing.
The BP product is nothing but a K&N filter with a velocity ring. Just get yourself a proper fitting K&N and call it done.

I know that this is not a honda....but the guys over on the honda-tech forum have dyno graphs proving a 4 horsepower increase with the velocity stack and filter.

4 hp gains over what? Stock intake? Do they have measured gains with filter alone, not coupled with the velocity stack?

should increase air velocity going from 3" to 2.25" at the MAF
not sure id waste the time/money
that said, my intake goes from 2.5" to 2.25" at the MAF as i had to diy an extension piece and i only had 2.5" kicking around
not sure it changes anything power-wise though

Thanks barber. I was also looking to doing something similar to the AEM V2. Where as the velocity stack uses the venturi effect the V2 uses the Helmholtz theory. I don't know. Maybe I will just stick with a 2.25" velocity stack(if I can find one).

Thanks for the link Mouse. Interesting. I'm still skeptical but am all for someone stepping up as a guinea pig. From what I've seen, you've gotta replace that Bomz filter anyway. Spending a bit more in the name of research and community knowledge is money well spent (especially since it's not my money :wink:).
When I was the mule for creating the PRM intake that I run, we dyno'd with two PRM filter designs. One was designed to increase velocity. Interestingly, the velocity filter produced less power.

We will see....I found a Blox Velocity Stack with a 2.25" opening(part that attaches to the pipe) and a 6 inch opening on the funnel end. The intake will be primed and painted in Dupont high heat paint and then wrapped in this....

A little over board but all in the name to keep the air as cool as possible.

ya sure...go ahead and put one of those cut up tin can twister thingies in there too...you'll get another 25mpg with that thing in there...
velocity stacks are for turbos.

IDK I've seen them on ITRB's and Carbs way before they were ever used on turbos

anything that creates a venturi will speed up air...but seriously...youre talking about a really long tube that's hitting a throttle body, turning and changing inside the runners, and then hitting valves....and again, changing flow characteristics...
any way...let us know how it works out.

I don't think you can expect similar results with the 1NZ FE. You have a completely different engine. A new intake manifold would help a lot.

I'm not expectng the same results. But something is something and maybe when all the bolt on are applied there will be more to gain.
