Series/Parallel Config ?

Okay i got myself into a situation to where i can get two sets of these speakers (4 speakers total ) for a decent price. My amp does 87 rms so if i ran these in series parallel i could run these at 4 ohms i shouldn't have a problem with overpowering them would i ?

This is a series/parallel connection (below). Connecting individual woofers in a series configuration is not common in car audio. This is a lot more common in musical instrument (guitar and bass guitar) speaker cabinets.

considering your amp is a 2 channel amp... and those speakers are 2ohms each... then a series connection (for 2 speakers) would give you two 4ohm loads.

I think that is what you are asking, not quite sure tho. It is very rare for door speakers to be 2ohms... 99% of aftermarket door speakers are 4ohms.

They are 4 Ohms and i'm running it off the other side of my four channel amp. So i'm going to have four speakers. All are 4 ohms. I have two channels left on my amp. Each channel does 87 watts Rms..So i want to run Two speakers to each channel and i want a 4 Ohm load. That's why i'm wanting to do a series/parallel connection.

you need at least 4 voice coils per amplifier channel to get a series/parallel connection.

If you have 4 coils per channel, and they are all 4ohm coils... then yeah... you can have a series/parallel connection that'll read 4ohm nominal.

These guys are right you need 4 4ohm colis on a channel to be able to gat a 4 ohm load but you are using 2 channels. All 4 channel amps are stable to 2 ohm stereo on each channel so just run 2 speakers in parallel on each channel and you will be fine. You will also get more power out of the amp that way.

Why not ? They'll fit perfectly in the C-pillars and anywhere else i can think of to put them.

I also was wondering why you were going with 3.5's... If you are doing a pillar install with them, then I'd urge you to just buy 1 pair of those 3.5's, and then find yourself a 6.5"/7"/8" midbass with a low mounting depth to install in the factory door location. You'd need either a passive crossover between the 3.5 & the midbass, or you'd need another 2 channels worth from an amplifier to get the job done. The midbass would do a great job of blending the 3.5's in with a sub.

I'm just using these to fill in the sound since i removed my 6x9's from the rear to get some air out from the trunk since my seats don't fold down. I have the 6.5 hifonics components in each door which sound awsome, but i think the 3.5's will fill in the rear just fine. I got two sets of these for 20 bucks, brand new, reg price is around 25 -50 bucks a set.

I believe a few people have, though not sure if anybody on this forum has. I have an installer friend just south of Seattle,WA who I believe told me back in 08 that he loved doing installs with the yaris, and that he had done a pillar install like you had described with 8" midbasses in the doors.

I think SQcomp is planing something like that. He has a 1/small mid/8 setup ready to be installed. I have a 1/4.5/8 setup waiting to be installed too, however, I plan on doing my 4.5's in kick pods, not in the pillars.

Well i'm glad to read that there's a few of us using 3.5-4.5 inch set-ups. I thought it was like a very rare thing to do. I tell you what, where that rear bench seat is there's a nice chunk of plastic that looks perfect to house a set of 3.5's and some 8's

Right now she is stock. I just bought the car 2/17/10. I have too many options working at a stereo shop. Alpine gave us a free INA-w900 double din/nav. My boss put it in his car but he doesn't like it so when the Kenwood DNX-9960 ships he is going to swap it and I can have the Alpine for free ($1100 retail):thumbup: Like I said earlier we are picking up Hertz-Audison and I can get a free set of speakers of my choice from them. I want the Hi-Energy HSK163 3 way component set. If I have to buy amps and sub I will probably go JL audio. 1 12w7 and the new XD amplifiers. I get JL at 70% off. On the other hand we are a Kenwood Excelon dealer and they have a demo car program to kill for but you have to run their head unit, amp or amps and at least 1 pair of speakers BUT you get it for about 85% off :drool:. If I do that I will get the DDX-896 double din, XR-5s and XR-1s amps, KFC-xw1224d sub and a set of KFC-X1730 for the rears. I will still do the Hertz up front. TOO MANY DECISIONS...

i personally would stay away from kenwood... tho I loved my 719deck I had (the 1st decent mp3 deck on the market back in 2000).

the joy about running a small mid + midbass is that that 3-4" drivers can cover most of the audio spectrum, 200hz- 15khz usually is very possible, so the tweeter only needs to play the top octave, and you only need 3 octaves from the midbass/midbass + sub combo.

I actually really like the Kenwood Excelon head units. Their double dins have 5v pre outs and 13 band eq and 2 year warranty. Besides that I can get a $1000 deck 2 $500 amps a $200 sub and $200 speakers for about $400 for everything. It's hard to beat that deal. Trust me it is not my 1st. choice but the price might sway me that way.

You know, I could probably make due with their subs & amps... and the decks are fine.... but the speakers... even if I was working with their flagship components.... I dunno... to me the components are the most important piece of equipment.

I agree about the speakers. That's why I said if I do the Kenwood system I will get a set for the rears but run the Hertz-Audison's up front. :thumbsup:
