Whats the best way if they have been on the car for a day or so? I don't want to have my paint ruined..

Belt sander.
Seriously though, I've had good luck with the meguir's bug remover. You just spray it on the goo ahead of time, let it soak for about 5 minutes, then wash like normal, and they come right off. Soaking is k3y for anything stubborn.

Belt sander.
That or just swerve around them, saves lives and the time cleaning them off.
+1 on the Meguiars bug and tar remover
+2 on meguiars
or i just pressure wash the car and use meguiars gold class/wash and wax car soap

I have found that Fantastic or 409 spray cleaner works very well. Of course, you do have to leave it on for a few minutes first, then rinse it off.

I just ended up using soap ,water, and a microfiber towel. I soaked the bugs for about a minute in water using a spray bottle and got all the crap off.

spit on it.....seriously use your own spit and wipe it off with a cloth, then wash clean with water.....cheapest way instead of buying bug removal crap haha

I second this one. Worked better than any spray cleaner I've used.

Park it under your sprinkler for half an hour. For the bike I soak a towel or wet paper towel and leave it sit for a bit instead.

My car had some serious bugs on it. I live out in the country and in the Summer, holy shit there are a lot of bugs. I was searching the forum for how to remove bugs better, but previously I've used Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. They work pretty damn good, even without soaking.
However, I just waxed my car with NXT 2.0 liquid tech wax or whatever the hell, and I really don't want the magic eraser to screw up my wax job.

I've done that myself a few times in a pinch when I had nothing else.
I usually keep a supply of paper napkins a small spray bottle of plain water in a car to remove bugs and bird droppings as soon I see them.

Clay bar with soap works for me, but it also removes the wax if you waxed your car.

^La's totally awesome also takes the wax off if you're using it straight and not adding any water. I probably shoulda included that.. whoops!
We used to use it to get the bugs off airplanes at the airport I worked at though. .. nothing quite like getting dead bugs off a plane that's been sitting in the sun for twenty years... eww hahaha

I use 50% hydrogen peroxide 50% water in a spray bottle with a micofiber cloth. Bugs will fizz up and practically melt off. One of the best things to this homemade solution is it doesn't remove wax and is safe with clearcoat and doesn't scratch. I use solution often on my 2007 Yaris and 2012 Sonata SE.
To remove pesky "Love Bugs" I use a wet Dryer sheet. One that has already been used works best. New ones will leave a oily residue on your car and it takes effort to get that off as well.
