Can anyone recommend some cheaper, but still decent quality speakers to replace the stock ones?
I'll be running them off of my JVC receiver's internal amp. (no external amp. will be used) just like the stock speakers now.
I'd also prefer a set that has decent bass. I have a 10" sub. in the back and would like a little bass from the speakers too.

this is a relative question. Cheaper compared to what? Infinity's are always nice, and relatively inexpensive...

Under $100 would be great.
Infinity speakers always sounded kind of tinny and metallic to me and the ones I've tried lacked any mids or lows. Those were Kappas though.

it is very hard to get a good sound from a car speaker unless you can drown out the car noise and to do that at low cost hmm ebay 2nd hand parts ???

Ok. Model number?
Are you running them on a separate amplifier or directly from the head unit?
You can't make a recommendation unless you've tried it the way I've described I'll be running it.

25 watts is 25 watts, that's probably the most the Headunit will put out. The components can run on wattages between 2-100 watts.

Alpine Type S speakers are good for the money. $100 retail so online will be a bit less.

Thanks for the suggestion S7V7N.
The AVX77's manual says it does 20W x 4 channels. Should I find speakers that do only up to 20W RMS?

The only ones that i seen that were fairly decent were some Blaupunkts Rated at like 35 watts rms, for the price that is. I think the factory speakers are rated at like 10 watts rms. Dude i would just get what fits your taste and eventually save up for a nice 4 Channel amp, matter of fact you could probably get some speakers and an amp that does maybe 50 x 4 for around 120 bucks. Everybody has there own personal preference, Name brand or no name brand, Anything will sound better than them paper speakers that are in there now. I know how it is to be on a budget, Pioneer has some decent budget speakers as well as Sony. Check the Sunday paper, Best buy usually runs speaker specials.

Infinity refrence 6.5 components... can find them online for cheap... around $100 for a pair. Regardless of what you go with, make sure you buy a pair of components & spend more than $80 online, or $150 in store. Stay away from co-axials/tri-axial/quad-axials... you only need 1 tweet per speaker, having 5 doesn't help sound quality.... if anything it makes things worse, but it does look good for the marketing department, and allows a company to charge more.

there is one person on this forum that swears up and down the deck does something like 17x4 rms.... I'd bet its much closer to 10x4 (at any acceptable amount of distortion). Most aftermarket decks are lucky if they can put out 17x4.... I doubt an OEM will be as good, or better than the aftermarket decks... but maybe. Regardless, its best to just save $150 and buy a small 2 channel amp to power your front 2 speakers, and the wires/cables needed to install the amp. It'll sound louder, and you'll notice more bass.

Yep an amp is the way to go. And i just took a wild guess at the wattage, but that's what most advertise 50 x 4 Max and 25 x 4 Rms, as to what is actual crystal clear sound and what is sound mixed with noise, that would be sqcomp's department to break it down for us.

The Yaris is a noisy car. There's pretty much no sound-proofing put into it at the factory so I can accept not having crystal clear sound.
I just want more "definable" lows and mids. The JVC AVX77's setting allow me to get decent highs w/ just the stock speakers, but the middle and lower end is a little lacking, even w/ the 10" sub. and the high-pass filter turned off in the AVX77's menu.
So far, I see recommendations for Infinity Reference, Alpine Type S, and Hifonics. People on another forum are recommending Polk DBs.
I wish I could try them all to see which of them will give me the additional mids. and lows I'm looking for just by running them through the HU and not an additional amp..

it's really hard to compare speakers. Even if you can track down a pair of each kind, if you don't listen to them in a car, installed they way you will have them installed, you might not be getting a realistic audition of them. In stores they are often installed in 1cuft sealed boxes which will give a different sound than if they were installed Infinite Bafffle in a car door. And they are also positioned better in the store walls too.
I would focus mostly on the tweeter aspect, there are few things worse than buying a pair of speakers with a tweeter that you just don't like. I personally stay away from most metalic tweeters because to me they sound to harsh/shrill usually. Other people love them.
As for the lower end midrange/midbass.... the speaker that is the least efficient, or has the smallest magnet will most likely be the speaker that has the most potential for the lower notes.... but these are generalizations. There are trade offs in speakers, and when it comes to low notes your options are small box, extended low range, or high efficiency. You can pick one or two, but you can't have a speaker that is good at all three. For door speakers we can pretty much build a speaker for a large box, and focus on the efficiency & low range.... however that is not always what the manufacturers do.

I guess I should get speakers then that have good mids and lows since I can always add tweeters later on.

Ok, so they were under $100. Do they fit any of the other criteria I'm looking for (mentioned in my various posts above)?

If you have a SUB, don't try to make your other speakers play BASS.
It will only muddy them up at louder volumes.
Let the drivers reproduce the frequencies they were designed for.
If you are running low-watt deck power, you need a cheap efficient speaker.
Don't buy 100watt component speakers, those need more power than a deck puts out.
Try THESE:
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_20032_Pioneer+TS-G1643R.html
They sound nice on deck power, and they are CHEAP.
But as I said, don't expect them to play any BASS. Use your SUB for that.
